I know quite a few Quakers and have never met one that supports violence in any shape or form. This is just horrific; arresting people for having a meeting in a place of worship: Met raids Quaker meeting house and arrests six women at Youth Demand talk
On the face of it, police are over reacting badly to many trivial situations. There was an article in the paper a few days ago about a couple who were arrested after question the recruitment policy at a primary school on social media. Held in the cells for hours, released, but only told several days later that they hadn't broken any law. Shouldn't checks be made to see if a law has been broken before arresting people in this type of situation?
I've seen several posts on FB stating that, while the world in general moves on, the USA is now back in the 30s with Nazi style fascism where injustice is rife. I've also seen posts from protest groups who are trying to stand against such behaviour and organising marches and rallies and disobedience but the 1% who own the news media are not reporting it and, in other cases, the orange man wants to impeach judges who dare to defy his edicts and make their judgements according to law. It's frightening on a monumental scale.
But judging by the Quaker story it’s happening here too. Glad that I’m old and have no investment in or input into the future.
Have you ever heard a more pathetic excuse for a church leader not acting on reports of clergy abusing children? Justin Welby tells BBC abuse in Church was 'overwhelming'
Parents arrested by Hertfordshire police for complaining about daughter’s school If the story doesn’t show in full, click on “I’ll do it later”.
Just had an email from a Quaker friend telling me that the police who arrested the women inside the Friends’ Meeting House in Westminster, having heard that they were conducting a private meeting in a place of worship, didn’t ring the doorbell, they battered the door down.
I agree with that. I have done several first aid courses and it is always easy to put a co operative person into the recovery position. Try doing it in a cramped shower room!
I've just been reading how china have created a frankly massive tunnel and engineering feat under the yellow river, in just 110 days. That is monumentally good. The west need to have a look at themselves and how they deliver infrastructure projects
Yep, wonder how many workers they killed in the process. Not saying we dont need to get out finger out on such projects but there needs to be a happy medium.
