He was picked by us. There is a vote that goes out with names of candidates to run for president, we voted for him to run above the others
I'm not sure any one other than Trump supporters would like the replacement, it would achieve nothing.
I would say the problem was in the choice you were offered, and that when big, big money is pulling the strings, all manner of things can be hidden or obfuscated, with the media colluding. Indeed, the problem may be the media full stop. The clickbait headlines and story slants, what’s reported and what’s silenced, who gets preferential treatment, etc. @Sheal, I think if there were an assassination attempt, it would be because Big Money gets fed up with him, not ordinary people. It would be framed to look like an ordinary loner did it, doubtless. He was voted in democratically, putting aside all the lies and hype which seem to be a feature of elections everywhere these days, and most ordinary citizens probably respect that.
@resdtar Trump and his monied supporters are masters of fake news as well as owning news organisations such as Fox News and The Washington Post so impartial, facts-based news is hard to come by. The USA is surprisingly rife with large scale corruption where presidencies, governorships, senate seats and even judges can be bought by funding massive campaigns and spreading misinformation about opponents. There are reasons for the UK rules about political funding. Another factor in recent elections is the IT factor with all sorts of rubbish pushed out on social media with support from foreign interest such as Russia and China. Given a population of 340 million I find it hard to believe that they couldn't come up with two better propositions than Trump and Biden in recent years. There must, surely, be someone out there with a bit of integrity and intelligence who is mindful of the constitutional ruling that the presidency is not to be used for personal gain. A president's job is to promote the well-being and secuirty of all US citizens and the country as a whole. Trashing the economy, breaking international treaties and obligations, betraying allies, inciting hatred and prejudice against minorities of colour and sex - this is not integrity but cunning for personal gain for him and his sidekicks like Musk, Bezos and co.
Rather like the last General Election in the UK. The 'Least worst' option (or at least it seemed that way at the time) was chosen. Many who made that choice in the UK now have serious regrets. I wonder how many in the USA feel the same way.
The political system in America is obviously so screwed that the only two candidates that were put forward were a demented old man and a six times bankrupt criminal. This is the nation that put men on the moon, for goodness sake! I think the chances of another assassination attempt are far slimmer than if Trump was a Democrat. I suspect that there would be thousands of gun crazy republicans ready to take him out, as evidenced by the sort of people who stormed the Capital. I shall continue with my little campaign to boycott American made goods, even though it’s difficult to actually find much in the shops. So far we have given up cranberries, tinned prunes and cancelled our Netflix subscription. I also think that the spokeswoman who was whining about the lack of American cars in Europe should be sentenced to a two week touring holiday in Cornwall in one of their gas guzzlers, and having to pay for the fuel out of her own pocket. Might open her obviously blinkered eyes and moderate her ignorant opinion.
@shiney - no new tariffs on Russia tho he's threatend to put some on Russian oil. He's also put 10% on Svalbard which is a Norwegian island tho Norway gets 15% - another fine example of his grasp of geography and trade figures to add to the penguin fiasco.
