But that is the issue---one word you said, TODAY. for years and years way before Trump, grades and academic skills have been falling in the USA, so easy to see in collection data. And no one did anything about it. WHY? the democrats want dumbing down of America. Now that Trump is doing something, they will rally and pull out anything they can to make it look wrong. They had plenty of time to fix it. Democrats did not.
In the UK last week, a Women's Pool championship final was contested between two men. Some people will say "Pool - so what? Where's the gender advantage?". Well there are several, including men having a much harder break, but we shouldn't even have to be arguing that. It's a women's contest - why shouldn't only women be allowed? In the Olympics last year a man won boxing gold in the women's contest. Two men were allowed to go into the ring with women and beat them up. These were not transgender women, they were men with a disorder of sexual development (DSD), but still men who had gone through male puberty. They had the same condition as Caster ("My internal testicles don't make me any less of a woman") Semenya, who is no longer allowed to compete against women. They had been disqualified from the female category by the WBA on the grounds of genetic testing, but the Olympics doesn't follow WBA rules and considers just an F marker on the passport to be sufficient. In the paralympics last year, a man who identified as a women raced against women in the visually impaired category. He didn't win, largely because he was much older than all the other competitors. If he had been their age group they wouldn't have stood much of a chance.
Imagine. The megalomaniac’s dream. Having a syndrome named after you. So they find sufferers of this syndrome and they lock ‘em up. Lock ‘em up. Where did I hear that?
I suppose it's a matter of what is meant by "years and years ". Were there no Republicans in power at some point as well as Democrats during that period ? As you say, each state can impose standards it feels happy with regardless of the rest of the country. I wouldn't profess to know about academic skills in the US - the one thing that often strikes me tho is that the average citizen often finds it difficult to pinpoint the location of other countries throughout the world. Gives the impression of being an inward looking nation. Have to admit that Mr. T is not inward looking by any stretch of the imagination tho
Maine is doing better in educational achievement than Florida, North and South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, the whole mid west except Colorado which is blue anyway........... Your claims don't hold water @redstar @Philippa - outward looking with greed and malice but not geographical or historical knowledge or awareness.
n Believe I have stated this before, it all depends on what the house and senate looks like. Just because a president is R or a D does not mean it gets done. In this case NOW, both senate and house are Republicans, things get done. And seems like Nancy and Chuck don't like that Trump is doing what they wanted done years ago. Don't think the "inward thinking" is on purpose, its education.
I see Trump has just backtracked on tariffs for computers and smartphones. I suppose he’s not too bothered now that he has increased his fortune by this weeks insider trading. I was wondering whether he would be investigated for that, but it turns out he has fired all the staff whose job that would be. Anyway, he has granted himself immunity for any criminal acts he commits while President, and fired all the judges who aren’t in his pocket. What has the world come to, when what used to be a powerful and respected nation is now being run by a convicted criminal. No morals whatsoever. It no longer matters what party is actually in power, neither of them are, the republicans just haven’t realised that yet.
@redtsar I mentione Main as an example of POTUS interfering in education. You replied he needs to bring up standards across the states. I pointed out that Maine is already doing better than a whole slew of red states, the implication being he should concentrate on those first and not meddle in a state where things were working. You consistently persist in concentrating on minutiae whilst I prefer to look at the bigger picture from a wide range of sources and draw my own conclusions which are that POTUS is set on destroying democracy and lining his pockets and doesn't care who gets hurt. I'll stick to my way thanks.
@Obelix-Vendée - very true Forgive my ignoramce @redstar but what has Mr. Trump and his government actually achieved so far in this term in relation to his campaign promises? The Russia/Ukraine war is still ongoing despite his claims of resolving it within hours/days of taking office. No let up in the Israeli/Gaza debacle despite his much vaunted plan to remove all Palestinians and create a Disney World there ( we should be grateful that didn't work out tho ). His suggestion that Canada and Greenland should be included in the USA without offering any reason other than wanting their natural resources. His invoking tarrifs, then pausing them, then increasing them and so on ad infinitum. I believe you did mention that your personal finances had improved due to this action so that has obviously worked for you but is that the case for the majority of citizens in the USA ? Like any leader, he needs to consider global issues - sadly he isn't the only one who refuses to look further than the end of his nose.
I don’t think @redstar should be put on the spot to defend things. It is really interesting having her insider view, as it were, and I hope that continues. It is perfectly valid for any US citizen to support Trump either generally or over specific policies. Just like in the 2019 election here when we had the choice between Boris and Corbyn, I’m sure many of us had reservations about either being in power. Boris got in and we may have supported some of his actions, been appalled by others, felt he delivered on his manifesto or not, but the electorate is never to blame for who gets in as voters can only choose from those on the ballot.
