I've had parcels delivered to local shops but most seem to employ people that don't speak English and it usually involves a garbled phone call to the boss as to how to scan the bar code etc.
I've used amazon lockers and I think RM has some of those now as well.

Mostly I just use the option of leaving in my front porch.

To reiterate my previous sentiment on RM, it’s rubbish here. We haven’t had any post all week Next week, no doubt, we’ll get a great batch of stuff through the door. OH has been waiting on something for nearly a fortnight. It’s ridiculous.

We use Royal Mail 48 tracked quite regularly (Mrs Shiney has an Amazon bookshop - they insist on it being a tracked service) and find that they deliver fairly promptly. We do it online, cheaper than at a post office, and the postman picks it up from us the day after placing the order. Never had it taking longer than 2 - 3 days to be delivered. Reasonable price too.

We used to use some of the courier type services but found them no cheaper, not as reliable and we now don't have to drive somewhere to drop them off.

Since our regular postman disappeared about 3 years ago, I often find myself having to rediliver mail to the correct address. Last year I received something for the local garage which is actually sited opposite the PO !! Just lately, I've had 2 electric bills for the church - just across the road from here and fairly obvious to all :wallbanging:

We believe my Grandaughter has Autism, we were told there could
be a 7 year wait to be seen on the NHS. My daughter & me have paid for my Grandaughter to go private at the Priory, Chelmsford.
We now have an appointment at 7.15 PM in two weeks time.

That's quite late in the evening for you to be having to get back home! The Priory is not far from us.

We live in Thanet, so it will have to be an overnight stay.

I think C.O.D was slightly before my time but I do remember it being referred to in newspaper cartoon jokes, e.g. people ordering fish and asking for C.O.D.

I have a big metal box outside my house, it's lockable but no-one ever bothers to lock it (good job too, that would be a nuisance for multiple deliveries in one day). It's heavy enough that no-one's going to walk off with it, and it's right under the window with the lid making quite a clang. Most delivery people are so keen to use the box that they put in stuff that would easily go through the letterbox. I've found editions of the local free paper in there too.

I ordered a bag of grit to be delivered once and they put it in the box. A 20kg bag which fitted tightly ... The only way I could get it out was to lay the box on its side and pull. As a last resort I would have cut the bag inside the box and decanted it into another container, but it didn't come to that.

But in general, it's been a huge help, especially for those small low-value items.

I have just seen a weather summary and apparently almost the entire country has been bathed in sunshine all day ... except me! :th scifD36: Been 100% cloud cover, dreary, with patches of persistent drizzle, down here.

We had lovely sunshine first thing but it had clouded over by lunchtime. No rain though.
