It's because it cost money to take the salt out after they have puy it in in the first place ;)

Would you like to calculate how much cheaper they should be? Given the number of grams of salt they contain, and the price per gram of salt ....

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a smaller production run making them more expensive.

          On one packet, no.
But on a few million there is likely to be a saving.
I bet if they added more salt it would be a reason to put the price up.

I've probably said this before, but yesterday they said we are now using 50% of renewable electricity.
But that the price will not come down because of the way the market works.

Now they keep saying it's calculated as if it was generated from gas , but renewable are much cheaper.

My question is, why don't they change the way the market works and who is making all the extra profits of cheap electricity.
          It's a racket.

Ah! But they would have to add another small crisp to make up the weight! :ideaIPB:

Are they really saying that they used to have 1.6% salt in the packet? :yikes: (checked on the current salt content

It's raining outside so am not in the garden, so have a little time to waste in between solving the problems of the world :heehee:.

I think it's mainly the overheads companies are facing. It takes less soil, water and space for smaller plants that you can shift quicker.

Locally the plants in larger pots have an exorbitant markup consider they are usually only slightly older plants which have been recently up-potted.

If you have the time and patience to nurture small plants in 9cm pots and you know what you're doing, fine. Sometimes they're just plug plants in tea bags potted on for a quick turnaround. For inexperienced gardeners who may not know that they need a bit of nurturing there's likely to be disappointment when they're planted out and demolished by slugs, snails or the weather .

Our old garden clock has given up. The hour hand just does it's own thing. It will point to the correct hour for a while and then decide it's all too much trouble and it will just stay in the same position for hours. It then moves again for a few hours then stops. We know what minute it is, but the hour is a complete guess. We bought a new clock yesterday. Construction is very poor and the price was about 3 times the cost of the old one. The new clock has a hook which sits in a bracket, but the hook is so loose in the clock casing that the wind turns it into a mobile! Instead of having a clock where we at least knew part of the time, now we have to wait for the wind to turn it back round! Made in China as if you hadn't already guessed.

Its also about keeping shipping costs down.
Having sent a few plants in the post to people I sympathise with how much wrapping and protection it takes to turn them into a parcel.
A small pot is much easier with less top growth and lighter so cheaper to send.

                      *sighs wearily*

So ... bad back means to sit upright when eating, I need to be propped against a burning hot water bottle. Unfortunately my lunch was interrupted when the bottle in current use decided to split, delivering its contents onto me (ouch) and, worse, the sofa. Just spent an hr using a hair dryer to try to evaporate most of the moisture from the cushions ... but bending to do this has not done my back any good at all, so I need a hot water bottle except ... it's burst!
