@pete If you seatbelt is locking in the way you describe it is faulty. It should allow free movement back and forward unless you move quickly, in which case it's acting as intended.

I have a tendency to move forward when trying to get out of difficult junctions, I find if it locks up its a pain, most do do it I have found over the years with different cars.

Not safe till the Ice Saints have been and gone @ViewAhead. I first heard about them from gardening friends in Belgium and they still take note here, much further south.

You would have thought with all the climate change that is going on anything from the 1600s would not be relevant anymore.
Just shows there is nothing new in the world.

@pete I've used what used to be called Klunk clips on seat belts for about 30 years now and for the same reason as you - I can't stand the belt tightening up. The first ones below were for belts that weren't integral to the frame of the car. They're still available now for older vehicles.

              upload_2025-5-3_22-51-50.jpeg

This second type are what I use now in a modern car. They're clipped round the belt and pushed up to the top where it enters the bodywork of the car, then clip it shut. You can adjust it to the tightness that you're comfortable with as long as it's not too slack. It doesn't interfere with the usual locking of the system during an emergency stop or accident. I bought them from Halfords.

And much further south still. The old folklore is still trotted out down here and is totally irrelevant nowadays  What we do get are hit and run hailstorms though. Very damaging!

I've mentioned before that I don't like the use of three letter acronyms (TLA's :heehee:) and don't understand most of them so tend to give up reading a post if it has one in it as I lose the meaning of the post.

I do admit to knowing what NHS, NIC and GPO, and possibly a few others, used to stand for but some of them are now used to mean something else. e.g. a friend mentioned in an email NIC but he was meaning it as Network Interface Card. I also think on here that it was mentioned that LOL can mean more than one thing :noidea:.

                    I never use TLAs.:nonofinger:

Maybe we should have an index somewhere with all the common ones and their main meanings.

Me and hubby use abbreviations when talking to each other, especially when someone else could hear. We often use OTF when describing an action in the garden and AH to describe a particular neighbour. There is also "elephants". There are lots more. As we can never remember people's names we describe them by their pets - dog man, dog woman, twin cats, slow dog couple. It's so much easier. But I don't use TLAs on here.

That’s it, never again will I give a penny to Ryanair. We all know they are dreadful but after my recent experience I would rather drive, walk or swim to any destination rather than use their cr.p company.
Daughter and I went to London last Thursday and back on Friday ( a day in London is enough for me having lived and worked in The City some years ago, it does not hold any great affection!).
Daughter booked the flights and the Ryanair flight times suited us so with slight reservations we booked the flights. As only an hours flight time, daughter did not pay the extra so we could sit together ( they will find all sorts of ways to bump up the price!)
Flight out delayed by 1/2 hour. We sat about 8 rows apart. No apology given for the delay to the flight.
Flight back was delayed for 2 hours and 20 minutes, fantastic, only flight on the board that was delayed. This time I am almost at the front of the aircraft and daughter right at the back.
Some completely unconvincing apology given by the captain, then presumably the co pilot gives the usual chat about safety etc. Well I presume that is what he was saying as I could not understand a word he said as he had such a thick foreign accent, so handy not! Surely they could find someone who could speak clear English and I am not hard or hearing!
I got off the plane via the front steps and there were 2 Ryanair ground crew watching us get off. I walked past them and then waited with another couple of people for my daughter to get off. We were not in the way of anybody.
One of the 2 female little Hitlers ( bursting out of her uniform and caked in makeup) turns round and shouts at us to move on, why? I could see my daughter appearing out of the aircraft so slowly started to move off, the little cow then shouts at me again saying “ I have already told you to move, move on NOW”. I was flabbergasted. It is a long time since I was spoken to like that and for what I may ask? I was not impeding anybody and I was in smart clothes not that this probably makes the slightest difference nowadays but was not in shorts and flip flops.
All in all a ghastly experience both ways. Ok some passengers leave a lot to be desired but on both flights there was zero trouble and everybody was quiet and caused no issues. The issues were all of Ryanair’s making. Now extremely late we rushed back to the carpark. We were over our allotted time but a nice lady at the parking waived the excess charge when we told her our flight was delayed. At least that was good customer service!
I do not care if it costs me double in the future to take an alternative to Ryanair if flying somewhere, never again.
