Even if empty containers aren't being moved, the effect for dock workers, and hauliers, is the same. No work and no pay. Also no income for those running the docks, the shipping companies.......
Even containers that are full aren't necessarily going to shops because more are going to bonds, sitting in a sort of no man's land, where you only pay tariffs when they leave. Lots of businesses are holding bonded stock until the tariffs are reduced.

All this to say that the new church is money and the oligarchs are not interested in having a populace with ideas so they're dumbing down education, censoring what people can read, closing down museums where they might learn some history and science and threatening universities by withholding funding unless they accept "guidance". Harvard is resisting but others have crumbled. All the Red states have more prisons than colleges and low educational achievement rates. As long as poorly educated people in the USA are susceptible to the kind of mind bending and fake news they're getting from the likes of the Fox corporation they will believe that its immigrants stealng jobs rather than oligarchs exporting their manufacturing to countries where pay lavels, social conditions and lack of unions mean they can produce cheaply and with little or no regard to workers' rights to decent conditions and pay and no regard to environmental protections. Exporting those jobs to China means they also lost the technology and China has been quick to take it, adapt it and improve it so they have more automated factories and make better EVs. China is also very happy to exploit its peasant labour and captive labour such as the Ouigas and is using the profits to build infrastructure which benefits all its citizens eventually. China is good at the long game. Trump has the attention span of a gnat and is easily distracted and maniuplated which, combined with his own nastiness, makes him very dangerous.

So Trump is fine as no mention of coveting thy neighbours country, mineral wealth, manufacturing industries et al As for "Thou shalt not steal " ???
