I don't do religion at all but this new pope is a great move by the cardinals. The script writers got it right for once. Have you ever shouted at the screen when you've read the book and they get it all wrong?

 

No religion here either but the new Pope is said to have a mindset much like the recently deceased one. If that proves to be the case, American or not, he will be a good choice. Unfortunately, Trump will no doubt take the credit and claim success for the USA.

He certainly was born there ... though I have the teensiest feeling Leo and Donald may not be singing from the same hymn sheet. Time will tell. Of course, Leo holds the position for life, so there is plenty of scope for that to change as presidents come and go so regularly.

 

Except, @ViewAhead, the Trump is making noises about not going at all. Says people want him to stay on, and on, and on.

 

Just been checking the news and the Wall Street Journal has this to report on the UK-USA trade deal after trump's lack of economic understanding shows again:



The USA car industry is, as you can imagine, less than impressed:

"Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little U.S. content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts," said the American Automotive Policy Council, which represents the Detroit Three automakers. "This hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers."

Couldn't make this up.

 

Age is likely to catch up with him though. And his burger diet.

 

@redstar well the new Pope is a start for the US anyway - at least you still have some manufacturing abilities over there - just make sure you take full advantage and put a tariff on Leo
Perhaps you could explain the "2 term" limitations for a US presidency ? I had always assumed it was 2 consecutive terms but now I'm wondering. Trump is said to be in his 2nd term now so would that mean if he goes on to win a 2nd term in office in the next election - taking him to 2028 - ihat will be allowed under the present US constitution altho it would actually be his 3rd term or is that one reason why he seems to be calling for changes in the hope that he can legitimately serve a 3rd term ( or even a 4th ) if voters continue to believe in him ?

 

I think we will be looking at Vance, and "you aint seen nothing" yet comes to mind.


regarding the so called trade deal. its not really a Starmer victory in my opinion.

He's quick to say its the first, but its yet to be seen what others get, I just wondering how good this "deal" is going to look in a years time when others have thrashed things out with Trump.

Starmer has pretty much played straight into Trump's hands.

He comes across as a boy talking to his teacher when you see them chatting, I'm not in favour of inflaming the position but at least dont crawl.

 

It's 2 terms altogether @Philippa so he has to over-ride the Constitution and its Article 22. However, as he's happily ignoring other amendments such as the 5th which guarantee the rights of all to due process before the courts which means all his summary deportations are illegal as well as immoral, he'll have no probs with no 22.

Meanwhile, his tariif/trade war with Canada has been a huge success - not.
