At last something to gladden the American heart: it now has two popes!

True, but if one must exist, this one looks fairly reasonable. And given he is not a doddering octogenarian, as they are wont to choose, he may have a couple of decades to hold off the extremists. There must be a fair few cardinals in their 70s gnashing their teeth this morning as they realise their chance at the top job is gone for good.

 

We might not even need Trump!

 

The world has never needed Trump, we just got lumbered with him.

Need or not, we have his impact. But, who knows, maybe the pendulum will swing back to centre sometime soon if things implode.

 

If you are going to bring “democracy” into this, you are going to get into trouble with the management!

 

By all accounts, the new Pope appears to be a decent person and has simolar views to the last one. Up to the Catholic church who they choose - all religions seem to have a bad name so if this one doesn't actually start a war, we should just be grateful.

 

Not a popular choice in some American quarters. They call him a Marxist, pope. (Bit of a contradiction in terms as Marxism is anti organised relgions).

 

Judging by news and posts I've seen many Americans have no clue about Marxism, Communism, Socialism and even Fascism and don't realise that Catholicism and Protestantism are organised religions along with Islam, Buddism, Hinduism......
