The ones in the town have similar restrictions but the one I go to doesn't as the lorries don't go near residential areas.

The big Sainsbury's in the centre of town, by the edge of the town centre, also doesn't have restrictions as they are on their own enormous site that used to be the Gilbey's Gin distillery. I don't go there as they don't open until 7 a.m. and if I went there the rush hour would be in full flow by the time I was finished.

The version of the story I read was rather more cut and dried. Italy have a vested interest in getting Albanians out as they are close neighbours, only separated by the Adriatic Sea. Similar to UK and France. They don't want other people's problem.

Lidl are breaking all the greengrocery rules at the moment. They have twin packs of Mangoes labelled "Ready to Eat" which are genuinely ripe, and lovely. Usually you can take that description as a guarantee that the fruit would best be used as a projectile weapon.

For those who enjoyed the first season of Ludwig, good news. It’s coming back for a second season. The bad news? Unlike Series One, which was on the BBC and available to anyone and everyone, Series Two will only be viewable by people with something called Britbox. And here was the BBC, complaining that its viewing figures are falling, with an award winning programme and it gives it away.

Could that mean it is airing on BritBox (whatever that is ) and then, after that, it will be shown on the BBC?

@Tidemark the BBC will air it in the usual way for UK veiwers. The Britbox version if for the USA and Canada viewers - Ludwig, BBC’s biggest new scripted show of the year is set to return

SM run this morning - 25 cashier desks of which 2 are for selfscan trolleys, 2 hold 4 self scan at the till for baskets or less, 2 priority disabled plu pregnant mums or with babies, 1 priority care workers (nurses, firemen etc), 1 for people who like to chat and the rest for "normal" shoppers. No queues. No overnight shelf stacking here so occasional trolleys of goodies to negotiate but no probs.

Stayed in a hotel overlooking the lorry park in Patras Greece. Armed guards at dock entrance but a purpose built unguarded open doorway, built into the high security brick wall, leading into the lorry park a mile down the road. Tented Albanian community outside door ready to jump into lorries heading by ferry into Italy. Every country wants rid of them ASAP except the UK.

At least the French know how to move them out of their country into the U.K.

@waterbut the vast majority of the general population of the UK want the illegal immigrants removed as fast as possible. Unfortunately, there are members of the legal profession making a fortune by stringing it out as much as possible, ably assisted by judges!
There should be no right of appeal for those illegally in the country. They actually make things worse for those who have arrived by legal means, as they tend to get lumped together in people's minds.

I think the French would have more problems trying to keep them in, the UK being the promised land with streets paved with gold and more speak better English than French; that's the problem with English being the "lingua franca" of a lot of the world.

In that case push your MP to change the law, the lawyers have to follow the law as Parliament has enacted. You cannot blame a lawyer for following the law anymore than you can blame a stoat for killing a rabbit; it's nature.

@waterbut 10% of the French population are legal immigrants of many nationalities. Of the 450,000 undocumented immigrants counted last year 8% were regularised, receiving permission to stay.

Given the porous land borders and its long coastline I don't think you can blame France for having on its territory large numbers of illegals wishing to settle in the UK via any means.

I don't know what the solution is, other than to helping develop the economies and political systems of the countries who make up the majority of them and beefing up border controls.

Just broken off from Gardeners' World and Monty Don spouting his annual rubbish about only hostas in pots being attacked by slugs! I have news for him. I bought 3 last year which are claimed to be slug resistant and planted them in the border. All 3 were ripped to pieces by slugs and snails. I've sprayed my potted hostas with garlic wash this year, as I did last, and many of them are virtually untouched.
