Hi. Following our long dry spell my Black Elder is looking very limp and bedraggled (see image). I gave it a good watering with our hose yesterday, about 20 hours ago, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Is there something else I should be doing or is it just a case of watering it more? Thanks.

You don’t say where you are, what type your soil is or how long the Sambucus has been living there, like but apart from drought the only thing I can think of is some sort of root damage. Might as well give it another soaking and hope for the best.

Hi. Thanks for responding. I'm in Fife, Scotland. It's been there for over 10 years, probably 15. I've no idea re the soil but things generally grow very well here. We have had some emergency digging in our garden but a good 6 feet away from the tree itself. Would roots go that far? And the digging only took place on one side not around the whole plant. I hope it recovers as it's lovely in bloom.

My one of those also went limp a few weeks ago. It's never happened before and I believe it was caused by the early drought. I gave it several watering cans of water but it never revived.
However it has started sprouting new shoots from lower down the stem and those are fine. I will cut the top bits off when I can get around to it.

That's a shame. They're nice and I don't want to lose mine. Lots of water and crossed fingers I guess...
