Well I've heard of molasses, but never tried it.
I would have thought white granulated sugar would be too pure to be of much use to plants.

I love the way in the headlines they are always "urging" us, like it matters so much to them. The article probably says that sprinkling sugar on your lawn has a slight benefit so you might want to try it.

I've seen a headline "urging" me to put a potato on my bird table. The actual article said that it was fine to feed left-over mashed potato to birds, provided it wasn't salted.

I reckon these are all generated by AI.

I think sugar on the lawn would attract ants and wasps.

Certainly with molasses the idea is that it provides additional nutrition for the microbiome and this promotes plant growth.
Sugar is probably easier to apply, molasses has to be diluted about 3 tablespoons to a gallon.
You could always do the same with sugar.

I think we should spray neat vodka on the lawns - see if the grass came up half cut.

It probably soaks in quite well.
Molasses is something that is used in the US in gardening and small holdings.

There's one just now saying that people should put onions on their grass to deter rats @Escarpment .
I know farmers are having difficult times, but do they really need to try and sell more onions....:heehee:

But are they URGING us to do it? I will ignore them until they do ...
Did they say something like "put just one 22p kitchen staple on your grass and rats will leave your garden forever" ...? I think there's a template somewhere that the AI is filling in with random items.

There's been quite a few of these 'gardeners should do this immediately because it will do *** ' items I've read recently. All a load of billhooks IMO, and just designed to hook gullible people in @Escarpment . Often, if you scroll through them, laughing out loud as you do so, you'll see that there's a 'vested interest' by some company or other.
There does seem to be that suggestion that doing whatever it is will sort everything out for you perfectly and speedily, but I expect they must get enough takers or they wouldn't bother.

                                Ahh...the naivety of many people....
