I found that many mail servers such as gmail assign you those names and don't really give you a choice. Luckily I had my google account as CanadianLori so it tagged me with that plus my year of birth.

Why does the tooth floss always seem to run out right before a dental appointment? It happened again today! :wallbanging: They're going to think I'm some kind of dirty beast.

I got the impression you could make your own up, of course the biggest problem is coming up with something nobody else is using.

Lots of French and Belgian friends just use their name with a number after it to distinguish them from all the other people with the same name. I had different email addresses for different purposes - personal, dance club, twinning etc so I could keep them all separate. Just use one now.

@Jiffy they're nesting and looking after eggs and larvae so yes, they're angry if disturbed. We have a few making a very small nest, so far, in the polytunnel. I thought this year I'd removed all the cardboard packing they chew to make their nests but must have missed some. I got 5 stings on one wrist on Sunday and 2 on the other and I was just minding my own business watering seedlings. Swelled up and sore then itchy for 2 days. Calmer today but still itchy now and then.

Mine is made up which is why the postman asked about it.

Passwords can also be a problem, especially now that the security side requests a capital letter, a number and perhaps another symbol in them. I use Latin plant names as they're endless and can be adapted with the additional security requests.

I have the same, made up addresses, and just have them as sub addresses to be used as I wish to.

@Sheal Yes, passwords are definitely a problem, to the extent that I have a book with all my passwords in. I must have well over 100 and my system worked very well until many demanded punctuation marks as well as a Capital letter and number. No was can I remember them all now. Funnily enough my wife has always included a punctuation mark in her passwords, although she does now also write them down.
Having the book also means that if either of us is indisposed for any reason, the other can keep an eye on things for them. My wife was in hospital for 11 days and I could get in to make payments for example.

Regarding passwords Its always seemed quite childish to me, I dont remember any of them and even if you do half the time these days they still want to send you a text message with a code.

If they cant come up with anything better than all this rubbish after all these years I think doing things on line is going to fail big time in the near future, along with all this hacking that is going on nobody is going to trust it.

They sometimes want finger prints but that never works either for me. DSC06435.JPG

I usually let Chrome come up with some stupid password that all these leaky old sites want.
Then let Chrome remember it, I cant be bothered, its all pointless imo.

For passwords I use formulas for each site. So each one is unique and I can work them out if I haven't been there in awhile and forget. I used to write them down but got fed up looking them up.

I have 5 email addresses with my provider and then the gmail one which I rarely use.

Can't do that with me as I don't have a mobile :heehee:. If they say that I must have one I accuse them of disability discrimination as I'm physically unable to use a mobile. Not true but I really don't have a mobile.

I keep passwords in a book of all the sites that don't really matter. I have a separate, hidden, book for the important ones where the passwords are encrypted using my own devised key.

I have the same . I didn't want the gmail one but when I had the new inverter fitted for the solar panels it could only be registered free with gmail as my server wouldn't do it.

My brother-in-law had fingerprint recognition on his phone. He saw his grandson with his phone one day, then realised he was playing games on it. Asked how he got into the phone he said "Same way as you grandad, with my finger". My b-i-l took the phone off him, locked it, and asked him to show him. True enough, his grandson's fingerprint unlocked the phone!

Perhaps I could borrow him, it doesn't matter how many times I set up finger print recognition my phone still keeps saying wipe your finger, dry your finger, put all your finger on the scanner after a couple of tries I just give up and go back to a pin number.

@KT53 , your brother in law's grandson could become a millionaire! Just buy him a 3D printer, make replicas of his finger and sell them as "universal phone unlockers". What a relief and simplification for the users struggling to get their fingerprint recognition to work

Thinking about it, there might be a downside

Regarding email addresses, most people I know have a more formal one type fistname.lastname.(something if the name is popular so already taken)@ to be used in situations where you want to be taken as a proper person. Then they have various addresses that do not refer to their names to be used for occasions where it is not important, or even desired, to share any personal details.

Makes sense, it wouldn't increase your credibility to for example send a formal complaint to the council from email address pink.cow.princess@ or so, and you probably would not like to share your name and year of birth when making online purchases or doing something shady.

Not that I would know much about that, obviously.
