I was aware of the problem with it in NI @CostasK but it's like anything - your own climate and conditions can make a difference to how quickly, or not, a plant grows and thrives. If you're aware of the possible problems, that's fine
I have it here - and it struggles to grow well!
Most honeysuckles are pretty tough, and are also fairly shade tolerant, but again, it always depends on how and where it is. Your prep is good, so hopefully it won't be a problem for you, but if in doubt - remove it and find something else. You can also cut it back to promote growth, but it doesn't look as if that's needed just now.

I read that information on Tuesday @CostasK when I looked up the variety you had purchased but didn't want to alarm you :thud:. I think it applies to that particular variety, not all Japanese honeysuckle. I'm sure it will be fine if you keep it well maintained.

Thanks @fairygirl and @Plantminded. I just thought I would share the information in case someone read this thread and considering buying one.

But I am not too worried personally - as I don't have a big garden, I wouldn't let it get out of hand anyway, I wouldn't want it to dwarf the other plants. I am actually hoping that it turns out to be a bit thuggish, as it's a difficult spot in the garden, so that would help  I will just have to be removing any berries that get formed, so that birds don't carry the seeds outside of my garden.

I wouldn't be that worried @CostasK, unless you move to N. Ireland and take the plant with you .

Our climate, here where I am, is very similar to NI, although we're a bit further north. It seems to need a bit more sun. The one I have in a slightly shadier spot doesn't do so well. I'm considering removing it and putting something else there instead. The one in the sunnier site is a bit better, but it's taken a long time.
