Cos that's what they cost, I expect. ;) Close to £80 for one here.

Yes, but people choose to have them knowing the cost so why moan about it, you've gone in eyes open, accepting the cost and I don't believe they're compulsory.

When they first came into use, green bins were free. The council then started charging for them. As I have no other way of getting rid of green waste I had no option but to pay.

The charge for 1 Green Waste bin has increased here this year - £73. A lot of people have no other option than to pay for the service.

I have a very small garden (ex council house) but I manage to squeeze a compost bin in. I don't often use the green bin - I share one with my neighbour.

@NigelJ, I didn't know this year's cost of the two council bins until I went to pay. Despite having two compost bins as we have a large garden, we also have hedges on all our boundaries so there's just too much stuff to compost. I don't put any weeds or plants with seedheads in my compost.

Relieved we don't live in @Philippa's area!

You are all lucky to have a green bin service. Our bin men are on strike so we have no service at all and no bulky collection either. We are stuck with over 20 bags and a full wheelie.

Not many days go by when I don't see rubbish bags, mostly garden stuff, piled up along the road leading to the carpark in the park.
Because they pile it up around the rubbish bins I guess they don't see it as fly tipping.

I think it's the way the price is escalating that people moan about mostly.

I get the feeling the councils will be shooting themselves in the foot if it continues. They clearly sell the end product somewhere here, and not to the public.
I'm considering not having one next year after paying for one for over 15yrs.
