I read that as, 'we even rope in the kids who can tie them to each other'.
A very sad indictment of today's society @SherwoodArrow

It sounds like a nightmare, do the parents get involved or is it not on their agenda.

I’ve never thought about how I tie my laces up really. Are we talking about the process when you actually knot the two laces? ie loop, round and push it through ? I do know that some people lace up their shoes differently to the way I do mine but I think that’s another story:rolleyespink::biggrin:

Why would the parents help.....they already did the hard part in giving them life!
We have a breakfast club (already up and running for 20 years before Starmer had the idea). We receive the children from 7:00 give them some breakfast if they haven't had any then they play till 8:50 and it's school.
One new parent came with their child and tells us he hasn't had his morning wee yet (7:00 am) and then wants to give us his toothbrush! I'm telling you if we offered a service of going round to everyone's house getting the children up, washed and dressed, we would have parents wanting this!

          We are! :)

7 am is early for a breakfast club start, @SherwoodArrow. :hate-shocked: I do think if parents aren't required to be responsible for the basics (teeth brushing, etc), they get deskilled at managing. I'm all for toothbrushes being provided if these are beyond a family's means (and I make them my donation to the food bank at the supermarket), but for use at home. I think the rot set in with the convenience of disposable nappies combined with sizing for older children. When terry nappies were the only option, parents were very keen to get their children toilet trained, and 18 mths for girls and 2 yrs for boys was about the standard for daytime dryness. Now, there's no incentive so it doesn't happen. :noidea:

You'd think cost would be an incentive though, those things are expensive. It's scary to think how much must be in landfill.

Similarly, you'd think cost would be a disincentive for owning a smart phone ... but apparently not! ;)

i dont find either method works well with polyester laces shoes come with now. I do it multiple times and it still slips.

ians shoelace site is a great find

I agree, @Adam I. Shoelaces are not as "grippy" as they used to be and come undone easily.

Now why drag poor old @strongylodon into all this.
I'm sure he couldn't give monkeys about tying laces or breakfast clubs.

Not sure why I came up in this thread as I have just seen it and haven't looked at GC for a few days!
Seems a long thread for something so trivial.
