Well councils have never been able to control money and the green waste is just another farmed out contract.
Ours is £70 per bin. My subscription expired a month ago but they're still collecting it...

They were talking about very shortly bringing in a scheme where you get issued a sticky label each year, I think it starts soon around here.

My own green bin (unpaid for as I share with my neighbour) still gets stuff put in it if it's handy. It lives on the path outside and was emptied at the end of last year, although we already have sticky labels, and none on my bin.

@Loofah -we pay around £52, and you get a sticky label [which is impossible to get off but they want you to put it on a fresh bit of bin... ] but the service was changed this year to fortnightly. I had my bin sitting out and they collected it both times after the new year started. I'm just waiting to see if it gets collected today as I filled it with hedge clippings. :heehee:
We only started paying for our brown bin [rather than green] collection a few years ago. It's been year round here as long as I can remember.

While our bin men are on strike we have been told if we dump rubbish bags outside the council offices we will get done for fly tipping. I would rather dump ours outside Unite's office, wherever that is.

We've had annual sticky labels for some years now and the binmen won't empty the bins unless you have the current year's label on the bins.

I agree it's just another money spinner for the council. They used to sell the resulting compost back to residents but that stopped some time ago. I believe they now sell it to farmers as green fertiliser for fields but I could be wrong.

Our council has stopped issuing the labels this year and say the binmen have a list of houses that have paid for the service. That's fine until somebody cottons on to the idea of putting their not paid for bin outside somebody else's house. I've already had the situation of a random green bin left between my house and that of my neighbour. We have our house numbers on the bins, this bin had nothing. We left it there for a few days and then informed the council and they took it away.

I usually nick any bins that are unclaimed, make decent water butts.

Our garden waste bins are only collected once a fortnight tho we lose a couple of collections over Xmas/New Year. They stopped issuing the sticky labels a couple of years ago and now seem to rely on the collection staff to have the necessary info.
@NigelJ Whilst people know the cost of these bins when they first elect to have them, it increases every year and users ( at least here) aren't informed of the cost until a month before the renewal date.

My new laptop! It is a Lenova with a numerical pad to the right hand side. As a result the alphabetic keys are over one but my head can't get around that.  :rolleyespink:

My numbers have always been on the right hand side but the top row of the keyboard also.

My numbers are on the top too. But my other laptop only had the numbers on the top, which is what I use anyway. Being a touch typist I don't need added keys I don't use! :nonofinger: I am not normally a moaner but had to complain about this as I can make enough mistakes of my own without assistance from the keyboard.

Our neighbour is out of her house whilst it's repaired by her insurers, she has been out since September for something they told her would be a couple of months. Whilst away I have kept her garden tidy and used her brown waste bin. It was only the other day that she mentioned she had cancelled it last year but the council hasn't noticed. If anyone was to ask we are just going to say someone is fly tipping in it and she's not been in the house for nearly a year.

Strangely I never use the numbers on the top row, just the other bits that that are there when you add shift.
I'm a one finger, right index user without the slightest typing experience, my sister who leaned to type in the late 60s always moans that these keyboards are not fast enough, and has to slow herself down.
