I saw a very near accident yesterday, the car in front of me had a couple of youngsters in it, it was hot so all windows open and the usual drivers arm out the window hanging onto the roof, I guess it was in danger of coming off:scratch::roflol:

Loud music blaring out, I noticed the arm moving and going in and out to the beat of the music.

As we approached a turning on our left a car on the other side of the road was waiting to turn right, he saw the crazy arm movements and mistook it for a signal to cross in front, they missed one another by millimeters, could have so easily been a bad one.

It makes you wonder how this country will survive in the future. Many youngsters now are selfish and clueless with no common sense or respect for anything. I'm glad I won't be around when that time comes. Call that selfish if you like.

The thing is its the adults that has allowed it to get like that, not much in the way of discipline seems to be taught.
There are a lot of good ones but the bad ones just seem to proliferate more and more.

I was never perfect but some of the things they get up to these days, with no real consequences, is the problem.

The general decline into cluelessness and selfishness really began about 40 years ago with the attitude that the little darlings had to be allowed to express themselves and never, ever be punished for anything they did wrong. We now have two full generations with the attitude that they really can do anything without fear of repercussions. Unfortunately they are right.

When I was young if I stuck my arm out of the car window I got a right telling off by my dad.

Update on the fireworks - at exactly 11pm last night (that is the legal cut off time for them) some more were let off. I think it was two fingers to those that had complained.

I'll be 40 next year, myself and my friends were all disiplined if we were naughty, all turned out to be nice law abiding citizens. We would be smacked if we were really out of control. It was always the last resort and something that didn't happen often but I have no problem with it, as I could be a little sod sometimes. My dad almost got arrested in a Dutch supermarket for gently whacking me after something I'd done.

I think most parents try and instill respect but there are definitely some questionable parent techniques today.

Laptop again. Saturday evening I picked it up off the footstool and the top half came off, T'other Half worked on it yesterday and the hinges came off ... then the screen cracked visually, not physically!!! I am back on my old ASUS learning where everything is again on here.

The Levova has a normal two year guarantee ... but not since it has been taken apart!!! :wallbanging:

                        The brats are products of
                        1. Poor people = lazy parenting
                        2. Rich people = indulgent parenting

And then there's the rest of us. My grandchildren learned their manners and work ethic from their fathers who learned it from me. And I still enforce those standards when they are staying/visiting me. And it seems to "stick".

I think grandparents can have an influence on teaching the children what is acceptable and what is not. And without belting them one!

My Father in Law did that and the car got side swiped. His arm was save but it was terribly scarred.

I wish it really was that simple. My nephew's 4 year old is a polite little boy, although he certainly has his moments. His neighbour's little girl of the same age is a total little mare. Screams if she doesn't get her own way. Uses the 'F' word when things don't go her way, and knows where to use it. Her parents think it's funny. The parents of both kids have very similar backgrounds and income.
I'd love to see what happens when the girl starts school in September when she tells the teacher to F off. It will happen.

I worked with someone and they wanted their child's first words to be the f word. I seem to remember that they had their kids name and d.o.b tattooed in massive letters across their back, which didn't leave much room for anymore children's names. In the end they had another kid but were then promptly told that the first wasn't actually theirs to begin with.

I don't have children so no idea whether I would have been considered a good or a bad parent. It does seem usual now for many parents to pass their responsibilities on to others - particularly in the education system. Free meals and social " protection " within both schools and Universities where teachers /lecturers are expected to take on a parental role as well as just doing what they are supposed to do - ie educate either in general or a chosen subject.
I don't suppose it is surprising that those children grow up and have the same attitude regarding their own offspring.
To be fair, each generation has always moaned about the previous one/s tho. Don't know what the statistics show but there does seem to be a growing propensity for violence amongst the younger population resulting in serious injury or death.
