I have been reasonably successful growing spider plants from little spiderettes, however I have one that had been growing in a yoghurt pot which I took out and planted in a much larger pot around 4 months ago, but it's looking very pale with thin leaves and a bit shrivelled. I was able to actually lift it out of the larger pot as the roots hadn't grown at all into the new soil and bigger pot. I was able to pull it out and the soil around the roots was still in the same shape as the yoghurt pot before. Why aren't the roots growing?

Hmmmm, I think it was just a general all-round compost...

Sounds like peat free compost. I find it hopeless for promoting root growth.

Try washing the roots clean and replant. The roots may prefer the soil they were in. I had this problem with my lavender. When planted out they preferred the soil in the pots they were in to my border soil and they stayed in a soil ball. Once washed and replanted off they went.

          Compost.
I said earlier I had a couple of bags earlier in the year of Compost that nothing grew in, plants just stood still and the roots withered.
I'm almost sure it was contaminated with some kind of weed killer.
