OH went with a friend to Wells and came back with two seeds. I sow them and it looks like one of them germinated. But I'm not sure if it's the bush or a weed.
I asked OH for a description:
"A bush, about 2 meters high, dead flowers had been replaced with downy, pine-cone like buds, about a thumb's length, with bright, red-orange, elongated seeds visible."

I know it's hard to tell but I'm grateful for any suggestion.

    Thanks in advance.

The seed description sounds a bit like a magnolia of some kind.
Not sure the pictures say the same.

Magnolia seed pods can be weird...pics below fro unknown Magnolia
However I wouldn't have a clue which Magnolia it was just from the seed pods.
Red is a very rare colour in Magnolia. MAGNOLIA XXX 04-09-2009 14-25-12.JPG MAGNOLIA XXX 04-09-2009 14-25-22.jpg

Are we talking about a red flowered magnolia that is just shrub sized?

If so I need to know which one it is.

Totally agree, but I had to trust OH who said it’s a red magnolia. I’m no expert in magnolias.
                Sorry for confusion.
