Every country in the world is probably made up of immigrants if you like to delve back in time far enough, I doubt half the so called indigenous people we hear about these days actually originally come from where we say they did, its just so far back in time nobody can really trace it.

I just think British covers nearly all parts of the world, basically anyone who was given a British passport, so still probably some not yet set foot in the country.

Just been on the KCC site trying to book a slot at the tip, tried it 4 times going through all the rigmarole and every time I click next it says fill in your information, which I have done four times.
I've given up now, its crazy, I dont type very fast so its a bit of a wind up as far as I'm concerned.
They asked for feed back regarding their website, so I gave them some.:roflol:

      Need some broadband advice please.
We're currently paying £61.40 pm to BT for an out of contract deal partial fibre service which has 36Mb, 6mp (download?) and 30 Mbps (upload?) if I understand the figures correctly.

Their cheapest offer is a 2 yr contract at £38.99 pm for 18Mb, 7mb download and 15mbps upload?.

We don't watch TV (or very rarely), stream anything (don't know what that means anyway), not gamers and don't listen to music, radio etc.

Would the cheaper deal be ok for us?

Almost certainly ... but it still looks expensive. If you are happy to shop around a bit, check out Plusnet. Excellent prices and great customer service, in my experience.

I think they are all expensive unless you are prepared to keep moving every time your contract ends.
Personally i cant be bothered, I'd go for the cheaper low speed one, they seem to think everyone is gaming and streaming these days.

Mine's about £25 per month for unlimited BB and phone line. I could add a call package for about a fiver, but I don't make many, so don't bother with that. Calls to other Plusnet users are free.

That's interesting @ViewAhead - you get unlimited BB and landline rental for £25 a month from Plusnet ?

We're with BT. Broadband and landline with 700 minutes of calls per month is £45. Staying with them makes things easier as we keep our email addresses and landline number which hundreds of people use. Between Mrs Shiney and myself we receive between 100 and 200 emails a day (not counting spam) and Mrs makes 300+ minutes of calls a month. Broadband speed is rubbish but that isn't BT's fault as there is no fibre.

We do make smoke signals when I have a bonfire. :heehee:

I do, but it is not full fibre, though I don't think that costs a lot more. It is unlimited. Re landlines, I know Plusnet are stopping these soon, but at the moment I have mine for the 18 months of my current contract.

I would highly recommend Plusnet. A really good, reliable provider, with UK based call centres.

It is a subsidiary, using the BT landline network.

Some company is putting up old style telegraph poles in my street as it is cheaper than laying landlines. So I was told when I complained.

I'm in the same situation as @shiney, pretty much stuck with BT because of e-mail address for all manner of things. Over time, a long time!, I could probably shift to gmail or similar but it would be a mammoth task. Our broadband is 70mbps download and 20mbps upload. Currently have no landline as BT sent out new router and moved us to digital voice in under a week. I'm waiting for a bit of kit to arrive which will mean we can keep the phone in the living room. The router is in the spare bedroom/office upstairs so it's a fat lot of use having the phone up there.

BT have always had poles around here, but the amount of clutter on them now along with all the wires is like something from the 1940s
It really looks old fashioned in my opinion.

It might be full fibre but its pretty awful to look at.

I think they call it Open Reach now

@pete getting full fibre to existing houses other than by using poles would be extremely expensive and often difficult. There would be no way to get it to our house without taking up block paving. Judging by the way they bodge holes when they do work, I would probably end up with a strip of tarmac down the drive.
