Talk to each other @NigelJ ? Don't be silly - none of these people [in any organisation] seem to be capable of that!
I'd love a water meter. We all pay the same for water regardless of what we us [area dependent of course] but I'd be paying a lot less than I am, while the idiot bloke a mile away who scalps his grass then puts a sprinkler on it - even when rain is forecast, or it's actually raining, would get a massive shock when his bill came in.
Even here in the west, we're having longer periods of drier weather, so it's sensible to be more careful. Yesterday was more normal right enough - 7mm overnight Monday into Tuesday, then 21mm in less than 12 hours.

One of my allotment friends asked me what I was harvesting and when I told them, they told me about a recent experience they had. I'm sure some will know where I'm going but he mentioned he woke one day and pee'd red. A trip to the doctors ended with a trip to the hospital to see a urinary specialist, lots of tests and two ct scans. In the end they found he was very healthy for someone in their 80's. Fast forward a month and it happened again but this time he remembered he had beetroot the night before.
I don't know how much all the tests cost but for such a simple question, what have you been eating lately?, that any physician should know the answer to, it's seems an incredible waste of time and money.

I think what they mean by net zero is most of us must live without heating and clean water so that the wealthy can carry on with their private jets and luxury lifestyles unimpeded. :th scifD36:

What was the carbon footprint of last week's 4-day Goodwood Festival of Speed, not only in terms of tens of thousands of car journeys (and a fair few private helicopter rides) by spectators, the track emissions from the racing, the fly-pasts and air displays, the luxury catering, and also, most ridiculously, the fireworks, both in daytime (why, just why?) and nightly for up to 30 minutes?

Net zero, used to mean zero emissions from fossil fuels but even if this was the case, the world would still continue to heat up as the damage has already been done. The world doesn't work on human time scales and for carbon sinks to catch up or the oceans to begin to cool we are looking at a long time.

I had that problem NJ so I eventually asked why I was always asked by my GP and nurse how many cigarettes was I smoking now. I have told them umpteen times I have never smoked. Several visits ago I asked the nurse to look up my health records about my smoking and there it was. A previous GP had entered in my records that I had refused smoking counselling (full stop). Spoke to a friend who was a Scottish GP about this. He said a number of years ago GPs were given a financial incentive for each patient they offered smoking counselling to so the GP would fill in a form saying “offered counselling but refused” which did not differentiate from heavy smokers who did not want to give up and non-smokers. Not sure if this happened in England.

                "I think ..."

Clearly the wealthy are not going to announce how any restrictions will affect others more. Interestingly though, whilst the BBC goes on and on and on about how we must all adapt our lifestyles, it still runs progs about the most luxurious hotels, etc, without ever once referring to the carbon price paid, especially by those without access to plentiful water or reliable power.

It's like WW2 food rationing. Didn't happen at Buck House ("upstairs"). Didn't apply to anyone wealthy enough to eat out in hotels. Etc.

Same goes for flu jabs, prostate cancer tests; the amount a practice gets goes up dramatically when they hit 90+%. Probably other things as well trigger bonuses, but those are the two I know about.

Some NHS depts. do actually take notice. A few years ago, I received a letter and a little parcel containing a request for a faecal sample. I didn't use it and assumed I would therefore be crossed off their list. However, the following year I received another so I contacted them and suggested that they stop sending them out to me as they were wasting both their time and resources. They confirmed my choice not to take part but said I could request one anytime. Never heard from them since so some do listen.

You can opt out of screening, but not for endless jab reminders. What annoys me is GP practices go out of their way to discourage patients from accessing anything ... except when it comes to stuff they want to persuade you to have. "Please die quietly without troubling us of any number of conditions, but we guarantee you will not go short of offers for flu jabs and cervical smears" seems to be the message.

Damn! We've just been slapped with a hosepipe ban! :th scifD36:

I hardly ever use one, though I have today as we had gale force winds all day yesterday with no rain, so absolutely everything was looking desiccated.

Ahh well! Only half the summer left to get through.
