It's been some time since I last posted in here, and alot has changed on my allotment, including the addition of this really awesome chili pepper, Capsicum flexuosum. It' a rarely grown species form from southern Brazil/Northern Argentina, so has some decent cold tolerance, down to roughly -12C. In the future it would be nice to try to cross this to make a larger, more cold tolerant perennial pepper. Anyway here it is in flower.. it's been in the ground for nearly 2 years now. 515439197_10161358552435404_6615109298777554650_n.jpg

That's really interesting @stephenprudence - does it produce usable peppers or just tiny?

I was wondering the same - be interesting to know if it produces this year. Not sure I agree about trying to cross breed - we seem to be doing enough of that and there are many varieties of Chillie peppers already. Good luck with it tho - always worth experimenting :)

Yes the peppers are small, but they pack some spice and have a fruity taste. If they were bigger they would be one of the most complex flavours in the Chili world.

Well cross breeding would be useful to try to get a usable sized chilli pepper that is cold tolerant enough to be grown outside. They are difficult to cross though so it may never be possible.

True enough about being useful to produce outside in the UK. The last lot of chillis I grew was about 4 years ago. They did well ( GH grown ) and whilst I did use some fresh, I dried the rest and I grind them up for use as and when. Can't remember which ones they were now but very sharp flavour.

Will do! Plus if you get a lot of these chilli fruit they are worth using but you need a handful. If you are ever able to grow them yourself.
