Forum offers me a choice of spell checker either English US or English US. It's same with many programmes US spelling is generally the default checker.
I would suggest that the British Government should take the humanitarian step of making the online OED available free of charge around the world and that then the world should adopt this as the basis of all spell checkers. After all the world chose the Greenwich meridian as the standard.

It's usually around this point someone puts up that notice with all the letters in the wrong place apart from the first and the last one.
When you see that you realise it doesn't matter how you spell words.

The censoring of words is ridiculous. On some sites even the diminutive of Richard is a banned word. Try typing a certain town in Lincolnshire which start Sc and ends in 'thorpe' and your computer will probably explode.

Pootling along the motorway a couple of days ago, I'd pulled out to lane 2 as the inside lane was moving quite slowly for no obvious reason. The front car in the row on the inside lane was driven by a lady who would probably be in her 60s. As I past her we reached the 300 yard marker for the exit. At that point she braked quite hard and couldn't have been doing more than about 30 as she reached the actual slip road. It's pure luck that the car behind didn't go straight into her. I know about leaving space, being aware etc, but somebody who drives like that really shouldn't be on the road. A few years ago I was on the sliproad onto a motorway when the car ahead of me stopped on the slip road, presumably to see if the road was clear! That was an extremely elderly gent who definitely shouldn't be driving.
                  I'm not being ageist - I'm in my 70s!

A friend was driving me home along the M3 on Monday and she was driving so slowly the lorries were passing her. She also slowed up almost to a stop at every junction slip road to let everybody out - very courteous of course but very nerve-racking for her passenger. Her default speed all the way home - about 100 miles, was 40 mph at a guess.

Dick from Scunthorpe worked at the steel works on the blast furnace.

In France, cos it's so rural and no public transport out in the sticks, they have a system where, once you are too old to drive "real" cars, you can drive a small car with no license but they are small and have a top speed limit of about 55kph and is not allowed on motorways.

Other drivers are usually very tolerant of them but it can be exasperating on a long road with no passing places when they sit in the middle instead of keeping over to the right so people can pass..
