On the veg thread I have recently said, I've just sown raddish, rocket and dwarf French beans in some of the space vacated by my 1st & 2nd early spuds. I will be transplanting more lettuce into more of the gaps, you could try some late beetroot or chsrd. If all else fails (or you don't have anything else you want to grow ), then sow green manure.

Leek moth here so looking to sow leafy crops for autumn/winter stir-fry, chinese cabbage, pakchoi, mustards various and watercress. Salads from rocket, mitzuna, cos lettuce, baby beet.
Does anybody grow little parsnips as one gets served in restaurants, finger carrot sized ? If so, are they a special variety or just bumped off as babes ?

Well ab I have some french beans producing at the moment - I thought it might be too late to start more ? I have sown beetroot there and rocket and lettuce elsewhere …

Ive sown winter brocolli in early july and hopefully its a decent size when the squashes and cucumbers die off. Garlic afterwards seemed to work well.
I believe radishes you can grow any time but ive not had great luck with them. Has anyone here grown them for the spicy fruits?

My mystery potatoes are still tall and strong, a few flowers came and went without any fruit setting. Maybe sterile.
I couldnt see any spuds near the top soil so ill just wait till blight finds its way here and dig it up then

My guess would be that they are a late maincrop if they are still growing after 16 weeks. If blight does come cut the tops off as soon as you see it . Waiting a few days to let the skins set then dig them up.

Mixed results with the tatties this year, the Winston were very good croppers, though I am finding them to be rather tasteless on their own. The Pink Fir Apple that were from my own small left overs from last year showed perfectly why you should buy seed potatoes, they were disapointing to say the least. Finally the Buster were the oddest I have ever grown they were small plants that have a very big crop of the tomato like seed fruits on the top, they kept flowering for ages and when finally lifted were a bit of a disapointment crop wise, not many tubers, most were small, but there were a handful of very large "jacket size" ones. Not too sure what to grow next year, I shall see what is available later.

I did sow more carrots and parsnips and they seem to be going well at the moment and will I believe prove to be worthwhile
Actually my carrots are generally better this year despite the very dry weather. Perversely I think it stopped them progressing too quickly so they are a good size, not enormous but very tasty !
