I tend to find yellow ones lacking in flavour, but azoychka is a solid 7 out of 10 for flavour that I've grown for a few years now and it produces early for a beefsteak. It's not the biggest plant at about half the height of sungold for example

I couldn't photograph all that I picked as Mrs Shiney sold a lot of it before I brought the last crop in this morning.

I rushed out there early as the forecast was rain (the first for weeks) and picked courgettes, greengages, rhubarb and picked up windfall apples and brought them indoors before going to pick beans - which takes a while. She had phoned the neighbours who quickly came round as they know that they need to be quick . All the money goes to charity.

By the time that I came in with the beans she had sold all the courgettes, most of the rhubarb, over half of the greengages and given away most of the windfalls. So not so much to photograph.

      This was what was left

The beans had already been ordered by members of my Thursday club and the rest of the rhubarb will also be bought there.

Inflation has hit! I used to sell 1lb 4oz for £1. It was difficult to increase the price by fractions (can't be bothered with change) So, over the last few years, it has dropped gradually until I'm now giving 15oz for £1. That lot of beans will bring the charity £8.

@shiney our rhubarb is still doing very well and has remained turgid even though no rain for months.
Also our gages are the best harvest we have ever had.

          Been working hard this morning.
We cleared out the broad beans and 2 rows of finished dwarf french beans. However some of the broad bean plants have got new growth and flowers so have left them in situ as an experiment. Probably wont come to anything but you never know if you don't try.
Then sowed some moolis and some more spinach. Heavy rain forecast but not a sign so have had to water them in as usual.
Cleared weeds from around and under the bird feeders.
Then harvested some more pea beans. They are still flowering but in desperate need of some rain.
The watering of the orchids and insectivorous plants took over 2 hours.

After our second tomatillo seedling died off we hoped this type was self fertile but seems not, vigorous growth and inflated calyxes but no fruit have brought another variety and sown it. Next year then!

Despite the great spring our issai kiwi is looking really unhappy. Leaves are drying up and falling off and the stems died back after a meter. Some of the leaved stems have lost all of them. Any ideas? I wonder if its too wet? But this summer that seems absurd. Its occasionally had wilted leaves in the dry weather but has bounced back after watering, maybe indicating its roots are unhealthy.

There is honey fungus fairly nearby but not a lethal one, It never infected our fuzzy kiwi so hopefully it hasnt infected this one. Any ideas? A leaf disease maybe? I have anti fungal I could spray.

@Adam I not sure but your photo doesn't look like a kiwi.
Ours are in the ground and in full leaf and with some fruit developing.

I filled up this trough with garden compost 2 or 3 weeks ago and look at it now! Those are all tomatoes!

My late sowing of French beans were ready to go out today; they were already looking for something to climb up. The current lot are cropping well, as are the Defender courgettes, and today I had the first female flower on the Shooting Star yellow courgettes.

I've also got two Tromboncino plants that have just started flowering.

A good session at the Allotments yesterday. The cooler dull day was better for work. Lots of hoeing as now we've had a bit of rain the weeds are going mad. Picked beans, courgettes, broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce, purslane, blackberries and 4 lovely big Raspberries from my new row.

the kiwi had small mites. not sure why the predators ignored it as there are lots of ladies and lacewings. Ive sprayed with permethrin as they were hurting it badly and its looking happier already.
