@Friendly It was ( more or less ) a passing comment on the radio . Sorry I posted now but it was just a case of making people aware of it. Apologies to all.
I was referring to bbc news this morning. They started showing the video, I turned the tv off but saw enough. Horrible people will get ideas. As said above you have nothing to apologise for.
I just booked a two night stay in Rothbury. The price on my laptop was £230 and on my phone £264. The same room, via booking.com.
Ah Rothbury. Where some of my ancestors lived. Lovely spot. And the river with the funny name, Coquet, designed to catch the unwitting visitor. Coke-utt, not Coe-kay.
I usually find it no more expensive, and often cheaper, to book direct with hotels rather than through a booking comparison site. There are often additional perks for direct bookings, also they are less likely to give you the ropey broom cupboard rooms. And if they do, you can make a fuss and they usually respond, rather than being directed to take it up with the third party booker. I do use the comparison websites to look at the options, and read reviews though.
It's the hotel that sets the different prices for the differing platforms. Sometimes you will find it the other way around but generally the app has more discounts. It's called dynamic pricing and it's the reason why it's often far cheaper to book hotels from a different country because they use location as one of the main factors for pricing. Some use vpn's to pretend they are elsewhere and you can save a decent amount of money compared to being listed in the uk.
@shiney I did say "on" SM rather than "in a" SM tho maybe there's little difference between the 2 nowadays.
Had a few broom cupboards and rooms looking a cliff faces, also dont open the windows as you are over the exhaust from the kitchen. If you are single they just give you the worst rooms they have regardless of the fact you are still paying for a double.
In our experience, many hotels will retain the best rooms for people who book direct. Understandable as they make far more money from those rooms. Abroad, you will generally find that rooms booked direct include aircon and the safe in the price. Both of those are often chargeable extras if booked through a 3rd party.
