I've never smoked it, I preferred Hamlet. '
But I did try the oil which I was told might help my back problems a few years ago.
    Did it, no.

I tend to think it's the THC that has any real effects, depending on what you want it to do for you.

If it appeared in my garden or in the pavement/verge outside my house it would get the same treatment as any other weed that I don't want there. In other people's gardens, it's their business.

Some years ago, a couple were found growing in the gutter outside our town police station ! They were a fair size before anyone realised what they were and removed them.

I've got some growing behind lots of other shrubs ( there's actually about 6 plants), I only noticed when I was filling my watering can up and got low enough to see under the other plants. One is quite big and has been loving the hot weather! I know the seed has come out of the bird feeder which is above it. As I can't get to them they will stay there until the frost finishes them off. I'm not worried about them. I did get lots of laughs at a recent family gathering when I showed/ told everyone. :)

It will probably attract the interest of the local constabulary..

But why? I don't want busybody type people complaining they can see it in my garden . This is my issue . Do users normally grow it in their back garden? My understanding was they pick it up at the lane near the local station from Bob.

We had some mysteriously growing in our garden many years ago. Every morning, without fail, the dog would take a stroll down the garden for a nibble.

There is a big difference between the hemp plant grown as a crop for its fibres @hi2u_uk and its cannabis cousin which is a class B drug and carries penalties such as fines and/or imprisonment.

You'll need to be prepared to convince neighbours, passers-by and local police that you have the innocent kind if you're growing it in public view.

Don't try this unless you want to explain your behaviour to the constabulary or to be mugged.

Very few do it's too risky and not economical and what do you do in winter?
Most people buy from somebody known to a friend of a friend, you will need to be vouched for as "Eric" doesn't know know you from Eve and you could be a copper.
In your case have a word with a younger relative.

If you want to grow it for your own use, you will need a proper system set up. Attics are often used but be aware that the lighting, heating and irrigation can prove expensive.
If you want to grow it as a foliage plant in your garden, I doubt you need to worry.
Your original post suggested you were concerned about it growing on a public highway rather than that you wished to grow it for personal/commercial reasons.

I don't know if I'm missing something here, or just being thick, but - is this whole thread a wind up?

Could be, but enough random hemp grows from bird seed every year for it to be genuine.
You could ask OP, but they are reluctant to answer questions.

Never found it growing from bird seed to be honest.

I did have a friend who grew it one year in his back garden some years ago as an experiment.
It buds up naturally when the day length gets to around 13 hours, so possible to get a crop before frosts.
He weeded out the male plants because you don't want pollination.

                  It grew about 7ft tall.
