Last time I did, but The Child, of age but a mere student, didn't. I told her that quite obviously the Government has vetted who's worth alerting and who's not

This time we both got it (she must have been upgraded in Government's books :heehee:), but I missed mine totally as I was occupied with paving slabs far away from my phone.

Ah well, I'll try not to be occupied with paving slabs if we are in imminent danger. Lesson learnt!

In my childhood there was a physical siren that was tested annually. It was very exiting.

No. My phone is not smart. It matches its owner.

Yes I did. It came through twice, about 15 minutes apart. Same thing with my OH phone.

Nope, didn't hear it. :noidea: I suppose not owning a mobile phone could possibly be the reason.

I remember the air raid sirens from the war. They should have kept them.

Not here either........presumably one has to have a mobile phone to receive it. Totally ridiculous when better methods exist.
Local nuclear plant tests it's siren every so often and that is audible so should be possible elsewhere.
Presumably the timing of latest alert was due A R's resignation

The infants school I went to in the early 60s had one of those just like that on a pole just outside the gate.
At the time it was used to bring in reserve firemen who lived on the estate, people just didn't have phones.

I didn't get one, having turned mine off.
Hub did and this American accent was blaring out.
                Freaked out the dogs.

Yes, but quieter than the media would have us believe with their usual overblown posturings. I'd not have heard it if I'd been in another room. Lasted about ten seconds. Hardly worth all the hype.

Ah ! That's why I didn't hear it then

Re that thing on a pole, in our village there was one on top of a building and used for the same reason, to bring men from the works and farms to man the fire engine (which my Gran had christened Suzie !)

So the Royal Opera House curtain-up bell beats it into a cocked hat, then?

I suppose the main thing is the message stays there until you get rid of it so even if you dont hear it the next time you look at your phone, every 3 minutes the average:biggrin:, you will spot it.

Mrs Shiney has a mobile but only switches it on about once a week or fortnight. She just uses it when two stage verification is needed and she finds that a pain in the backside!
