the recipe I saw for mine was to salt the life out of them then wash it of when they are dry. worked well

no need for seasoning, oil comes later. if preserved in oil they must be totally dry as any moisture can grow botulism. alternatively store them in air in a sealed container but not for as long

This batch I've added some oil after they were done.
Thanks for the warning about botulism. I've put them in a plastic container in the fridge. I removed them when they were still chewy.
I'll definitely try the salt thing with the next lot.
Just playing with the dehydration program at the moment. Might try bananas next. There's always one or two left over and they normally go in the freezer.

I've ended up with so many beefsteak ones (purple Cherokee and Lulu's finest) that I've stewed them into puree for freezer and later ragout. Some had been got at by snails, and chunks cut out means they don't look so good for burgers. However tonight the stewed ones were combined with onions, peppers, garlic and cherry toms fried in olive oil for a soup (served with fried sarnies of mozzarella).

yeah mine are still chewy but a bit leathery, they "rehydrate" a bit in the oil. I would try to use those up in say 2 months just to avoid any risk

@katecat58 - I forgot to say to you that if you want some Garnet to try, I can send you some. I only sowed a few, and there's plenty left in the packet.
Just PM me if you'd like them and I can stick some in the post. Tomato seed stays viable for a long time, so I'll have plenty left for the next few years!

An interesting change from apples. Enjoy, and do not spend too much money on enticing seeds.

Dehydration works best with things you can slice thinly. Try courgettes - you can eat them like crisps! Very thinly sliced apples are amazing too, as are kiwis.

My tommie season is all but done, just two plants left with a few fruits on the Gardeners Ecstasy and some fruit and flowers on the Sungold. Not a bad season but if we are to get hot summers like this one again, I will need to think about shading as some of the plants leaves were cooked by the sun.
