Unfortunately one of my albizzia trees hasn't stood up to the gales , just been out and cut it up, it was laying across a fence and other trees.

Yes, my pot grown one has to flower on new growth as it gets hard pruned each winter before storage.

@pete, I've not lost anything more but pots are all over the place due to more high winds.

Impatiens niamniamensis now brought indoors for the winter (early this year)
I repotted them in the spring, into peat-free compost and and they've produced more flowers than ever, and the leaves are huge ...
I've got 8 of them, and some cuttings rooting in water.

@Michael Hewett , I've had one of those variegated aeoniums lose its variegation, it's turned totally green and has been all summer, it's just got bigger.

Eucomis fruiting! Well done @Michael Hewett - they must like your treatment. Do you bring them in every winter? I thought bicolor was hardy.

I keep it in the greenhouse @CarolineL I don't risk putting it outside at all.

Did you have it in a light enough place @pete ?
Mine tend to go rather green in winter but the variegation returns with longer days.

Full sun in summer, they seem to fade.
                This years cutting.

Last years plant never got the variegation back this year.
                DSC07159.JPG

And another cutting seems to be losing it.

How strange, I wonder why
I've heard of, and seen, variegated plants reverting to green but it's usually new shoots that do it. The already variegated leaves tend to remain variegated.

Not really exotic but but different. Variegated Abutilon megapotamicum, I hadn't seen this one before and the flowers are a different colour to the common red/yellow one being maroon and orangey yellow. I am not sure if it is as hardy. I took the cuttings from a small shrub outside a Pub (with permission) and have 4 rooted plants now.

I remember when there used to be loads of different tender abutilons for bedding. There was one called Nabob that was a lovely large dark red. Since council parks no longer do much of that bedding, I suspect they are lost.

I remember growing the green and white leaved Abutilon savitzii for the Parks which was tender so it was dug up and overwintered in the greenhouses.

I saw this one today at Hilliers Arboretum, Red Tiger, half hardy but can grow huge.

I've seen Nabob for sale recently and there are still abutilon specialist nurseries out there. The most well known of these is Paddock plants, who have about 75 cultivars.
