Not everyone has one of these phones, or wants one, either @pete, and what's wrong with a card like your driving licence or a credit card? I hate these phones, and stopped using the one I got earlier this year. Big and clumsy, doesn't fit in a pocket properly. I don't know how folk can stand them. Maybe that's why they spend their entire lives with them stuck to their hands...
Apparently Ryanair [who'd have thought!] are about to make everyone use digital boarding passes - no paper any more. That'll be great for a large part of their customer base eh? All those pensioners heading off to Spain for their hols....

@pete the new EU access rules were agreed in principle 10 to 12 years ago when the UK was still a member. They are designed to control access to the Schengen area where, once you're in, you can cross borders with no checks to free movement. The UK now has its own version of those rules and a passport is not enough. You have to apply, and pay, in advance for a visa.

@NigelJ it is an ingredient in black pepper that is needed to activate the curcumin in turmeric which is known to be an anti-oxidant as well as anti-inflammatory as well as having other health benefits.

Some are not simply millionaires, they are employers too. If they close their businesses when they leave people lose jobs. Don't lose sight of that.

The Ryanair situation could get interesting. TUI use both them an EasyJet as carriers for their customers. Will that mean than people booking packages through TUI will need to have smartphones and the app?

@KT53 or they can do a Dyson and stay in the UK using all sorts of loopholes to avoid taxes and simply export their factories and jobs to Malaysia! And then there's that lovely Green chappy who raided his employess pension fund and exported the proceeds using his wife's accounts to avoid taxes and having to refund it all.

No sympathy here for dishonest millionaires.

Just listening to Keir talking to Laura K. He comes across as a nice man, a decent person. If I had to be stuck in a broken down lift for a couple of hrs with a politician, I'd prefer it to be him rather than Cameron or May or Boris or Farage. The problem is he has spent a lifetime thinking like a lawyer and he can't seem to get past that to actually see what living in the UK is really like for the majority far away from London and meeting rooms and speech opportunities with similar-thinking people. He just doesn't seem connected to things beyond the intellectual.

@Bluejayway it's bioprène in French and not a leap to get to bioprene or bioperine in English. It's the extracted form of piperine found in raw black pepper.

Whatever it's called it enhances nutrient absorption and general digestion and can help control blood sugar levels.

I more that goes digtal the more i go the other way and not do things ie, i will not go to another country because of the red tape!! i wouldn't go to city's that have to pay charge's though website's etc etc the more this happens the more i stay at home, i was a hermit 10 years ago but now i'm a bigger hermit, i think things here are changing as there is less traffic about here after 5pm even the farmers here are going slower and not about as much, is it because of cost's or are people slowing down and not going out and doing things, it's getting very quite here

The RNLI was set up to save the lives of the shipwrecked regardless of colour or nationality. They can't really lean over the side and ask to see the papers of somebody struggling for their life can they.

But the people crossing the channel aren't shipwrecked and knew the type of boat they were getting on

More often than not, they aren't even in any difficulty - they are simply being met and brought in.

I didn't mean that, what I meant was it was not set up to pick people up that are illegally entering the country, regardless of colour or nationality.

Its basically aiding and abetting people traffickers.

They are not shipwrecked, if they were they would be brought ashore and want to go home.

As I say I wouldn't want it on my phone, what happens when you drop it and it don't work anymore, or it gets nicked.

Phones are ok for some things but anything important needs to be something physical, I spent years using the internet and considered it just a toy, to me I feel the same about the phone, it makes some things easier access, but to rely on it entirely without any back up is stupidity.
