Some years ago I had to prove my identity with my bank. It was done online using some program of theirs. I had to continually upload documents over several days. I got a document certified at the Post Office and it was stamped by a Counter Clerk. The bank refused it saying it was not a valid job title as they had not heard of it, the bank being based partly overseas. So I complained and got nowhere. In the end I went into my local branch and it was done in there and they apologised. A few days later I received a letter asking me if I would drop my complaint for £50. I accepted.

And they managed to file for administration just before the High Court ruling, so were they told ahead of time what it would be? The whole thing stinks!

You'll probably have a lovely new housing estate to look out over in the near future!

A survey for Channel 4 has 'discovered' that certain groups are over represented in advertising whilst others a massively under represented. One group which makes up only 4% of the population appears in 50% of adverts. Another group which makes up 14% only features in 2%.
          Guess the groups!

Doubt it; a lot of the ground is not easily developed due to geological reasons.

Can't say I ever see enough adverts to have an opinion. Never knowingly watched Channel 4 either.
How do you know the survey was unbiased? A lot of surveys have a hidden bias in them.
What was the methodology of the survey.

Redheads are highly overrepresented, but only as women and children. I have observed for yrs now that if a white woman is featured, odds on it will be a redhead. In a group of children, if there is one white child, it will be a redhead. If there is more than one white child, any redheaded child will be in the foreground, front and centre.

I have nothing against redheaded people. It is just a trend I have noticed. Maybe the feeling is having blondes may give rise to stereotypical thoughts in viewers not conducive to selling the product. And as dark hair will already be represented by groups other than white, the ad execs go for ginger to give the impression of even-handedness, covering all the bases.

Didn’t need to waste money on a survey re the advertising! Just watch a couple of programmes and it becomes very obvious.
I suppose if one lived in parts of London, and worked where the advertising agencies are, the ads maybe look quite normal and representative. ‘In the old days’, when there seemed to be regional commercial tv companies, the adverts were geared to the local population, so we didn’t see stuff from companies, restaurant chains etc that didn’t have a presence in the area.
I’ve taken the standpoint that I’m obviously not the target market for the majority of ads, and will therefore take the hint and not waste my money on their products.
Although I’m still planning to buy whatever beer has the foxes on the speedboat, I just love that ad, shame I can’t remember the name of the beer! And I don’t like beer!

No idea about Ads bias as we record anything on channels with ads so we can FF.

Did anyone see the programme on Charing cross police station? I despair! I though the Hotton report in 2022 exposed this sort of behaviour and it was suppposed to have been dealt with. Clearly not and there is breath-taking complacency to add to the racism, misoginy, mistreatment of suspects and more.

I didn't see the actual programme on the Metropolitan Police at Charing Cross but the BBC News did show some "scenes". I couldn't tell what the officers were saying as the sound quality was so poor and every other word was a Bleep. The Met have long had a tradition of poor policing methods along with the racism, etc., etc. and no govt, commision or authority has yet managed to resolve the problem.
There are no doubt decent officers out there who suffer from the actions of their colleagues and it cannot be easy to work alongside them.

Yes, there are bad coppers, there always have been, but I certainly wouldn't want to deal with all the half wits and crack heads there are around these days.

Even the fire brigade and ambulance people have to deal with some right idiots, is it any wonder tempers get frayed.

Not seen the film so shouldn't really comment, but I bet half or more deserved a good kicking.

Re redheads:- One of my small businesses used to be a photographic agency doing model portfolios. Model agencies liked redheads as the colour was more photogenic. Nothing to do with racisms - or any other ism. Just the contrast in colours available with regard to clothing and hair. :noidea:

When my brother went off to university in the early 1960s he left home with a full head of straight, dark brown hair. When he came back home for his Christmas holidays his straight dark brown hair had been supplemented by a thick, frizzy, bright red beard.

@NigelJ you need to learn how to trust other people. I’m sure that Channel 4 knows what they were asking for :)

@KT53 , I couldn’t figure out what 4% group is represented in 50% of all ads. The reports in the internet about this study didn’t mention that. I only found that over 70s are hardly mentioned.
I’m not surprised by that because Channel 4 is not really interesting for that age group.
