An Algarve Garden 2024/2025

As it is the end of the month I had a wander at the bottom of the garden following the tidy up by Ben yesterday.

It is a glorious start to October and there is little blooming at this time of year barring the end of the Bougainvilla ...

What we might call a pack house for the oranges.

 

Yes, the individual farmers come in their trucks and unload and the fruit is washed and loaded into artics and go off to ????. It was a small place when we moved here but has grown considerably. It is normally very quiet but you can hear them in orange picking season but only for a few hours a day intermittently. There are lots of them off our road from Algoz to Messines. Our directions is the lane to the left of Machoro e Filhos ... (who produces oranges. Lemons, Clementines and Tangerines).

 

We have those kind of places springing up around here in recent years, often packing fruit for supermarkets, they had large cold storage buildings on the orchards where I used to work and the apples and pears were taken a couple of miles up the road to get washed and packed ready for sale.
Pity the buildings never really fit into a rural setting but I suppose you can't have everything, they are functional rather than beautiful.

 

@pete. I have to back down on something I said. We were watching the brilliant animated film FLOW when I heard music from outside (all windows open) and Jim said it was the movie ... I said No. We then went outside and it was louder, coming from the Armazen. Sometimes they have a small get together or play football.

@Victoria, have you had any Grapefruit yet off your tree.

 

Only his one ... and it was black inside ...

 

Looks like an orange, was it over ripe and starting to rot I wonder.

 

\it is a Ruby so haven't got a clue. The others committed suicide and this just turned this colour and it just looked ripe to pick.

 

A few blooms this month ...

 

We go a little quiet in November but Tecomaria (Cape Honeysuckle) starts to bloom ...






I had Jim cut the Tecoma stans back to half ...
