    Doesn't work for me.

First date in column 10 is 19.01.13

Only other date that is different is 17.05.74

Neither make any sense with regard to taking any tests. I bought my first car in 1965 but had been driving for some time before that. I remember where I took my test at the local testing station and we moved from there in late 1961.

The 19th Jan 2013 date is when new rules came in for towing and motor cycles.

I think it was in 1974 that the DVLA were transfered the records from local authorities, who did not record pass dates. Something to do with the red book. :snooze:

My mum passed her test 70 years ago and was driving a truck up to 7.5 ton on a paper license. I was issued with a paper license and drove 7.5 ton trucks. So, you would of been entitled to drive a lorry on your paper license. The law changed on the 1/1/1997, anyone passing their test after then would only be allowed to drive a vehicle up to 3.5 ton to align with EU standards.

I passed in 1974 and I never had one of those little red book ones so I must have just missed them.
I had a provisional for a couple of years before that but I dont remember ever having a red one.

My paper license has a box entitled 'Date of Catogory B Test Pass' and shows the correct date in 1980. This is the fourth iteration of my license as I've lived in four places since I passed my test.

@shiney Not the first date in the list, the earliest, which may be lower on the list.

My paper licence remained as it was until they issued me a plastic one when I had to renew my licence at the age of 70.

It only has the two dates that I mentioned, repeated a few times on the licence. Neither make sense with regard to having passed my test.

My paper license, which I didn't get till I was 30 and we moved to Harrow, but no public transport from there to the office in Greenford, made the Belgians dissolve in hysterical laughter when they first saw it in 1991. They already had photo ID credit card sized jobbies.

It fell apart by 2015 when we finally got around to applying for a Belgian license and that has now been traded in for a French one.

I also have a Zambian motor bike license from 1970 when I was visiting my dad who had a Honda bike. It had a photo and, if you couldn't write, you could sign it with a thumbprint.

I got a plastic card licence a few years ago as I wanted to hire a car and when I took the paper one out it fell into about 8 pieces.
I still remember the bloke on the desk re assembling all the bits to try and read it.

And then scraping it up and handing it back to me.

Did you learn to drive in one of the forces @shiney ? My dad was taught in the RAF and also held a full Class 1 HGV licence throughout his life. He didn't take a test for either.

I've just checked mine and the date is there - November 1973, other half passed the same year but doesn't have it on his licence. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to who has it and who doesn't. :noidea:

Our new car insurance kicked in yesterday. As part of the application, I had to input our driving licence numbers, about a second later, a note came up on the screen to say that they had been checked and confirmed, so presumably the insurance company has full information. That’s a great relief, I'm always so scared of putting in the wrong dates by accident and ending up with any claims being refused. I see that a lot of the time, the information defaults to a maximum number of years.
