I always look round when my car ins. is due. Breakdown is included in mine - they often add that as a bonus, so it's always worth checking. I don't usually do the home start though. I can't remember what my ins. is either -but it's around £400.

We have Shady Neighbours on one side.

They are being Shady in a most considerate way though, no noise at all and any faint music stops promptly at 9pm. It's just the clearly druggy friends of the son and the occasional police activity in there- and the taste in decor perhaps ...

Anyways, today we had a good chat with the lady about the totally overgrown Ivy and Parthenocissus situation, and it ended up being a nice, friendly chat. :)

The Child offered to go in tomorrow to help out on their side as she is good at that sort of things, and the lady was so happy and praised us as neighbours to the moon.

It just made me very happy to make that connection. We are very different but apparently can still be good neighbours.

I told The Child not to accept any Halloween sweets tomorrow though

I got my home contents insurance renewal documentation through today and it's actually gone down from last year! A whole £2!

My car insurance last year with Swift was £294. I've just changed the car so won't know until early next year what the new quote will be.

I must try that with the self-service machines, @Jiffy.

Actually, I'd probably start the conversation with "Listen! Please don't squawk instructions at me. There's no need. I know how to proceed. I know where to put my scanned items. I know which slot the money goes in. I know to take my bags. Etc, etc. So, you shut up and I'll just quietly get on with things. OK?"

The only thing that annoys me really with self service is that woman that keeps saying, please take your items, right at the end.

Its like I'm not superman, I cant move stuff that quickly, I bought a toothbrush the other day and she didn't know I'd put it on the bagging area after scanning, presumably too light.
I just picked it up and threw it at the bagging area, that seemed to work.:roflol:

A simple pleasure but I have spent an hour or two potting up seedlings - chervril, coriander, dill, Swiss chard plus some ornamental grasses - blue fescue and eragrostis.

I avoid self service tills like the plague and refuse to scan my groceries - like @Jiffy I like to deal with real people. In France and Belgium it is customary to say hello and wish each other a nice morning/afternoon/day depending on timing. Not about to scan my own shopping till they give me a discount for doing it in direct proportion to what they're saving on staff wages and NI.

No choice here as there are often no peopled tills at all. It's self-scan or don't buy anything! :dunno:

Its either queue up for 10 minutes just to say hello and goodbye to someone or go self checkout.

We do one major weekly shop so it's a full trolley. No way I'm doing that myself.

There are 2 or 3 self scan till, 4 small load self checkout tills and about 20 people run tills. Not all of those are in operation all day but we never have to wait for more than 1 or 2 poeple in front of us.

As it is I have OH trained to unload the trolley onto the conveyor belt so that everything is in groups - fruit and veg/meat, fish, dairy, frozen/pantry/household/pets, chooks, birds - so I then pack it the same way ready for easy unloading and stashing when we get home.

For about 6 weeks I've been having a weekly home delivery with ASDA. I'm quite liking it. The young men delivering are friendlier than the grumpy old chaps and they spread the weight of the goods across the punnets. I used to go to the SM once a week with hubby, but I'm now thinking of sticking with this home delivery forever. So far very happy.
