A big fat gobstopper would go down a treat with many, I'm sure. Edible gold leaf would make him want it.

My GP s surgery after demanding I make an appointment for a blood test, now booked for mid November. Today they demanded I have another blood test; latest available date was this Friday afternoon. They also want me to tell them my weight when I go, don't tell me they can't afford a set of scales. Well they'll have to settle for my guesstimate as I haven't got any scales either.

Apparently the advertisement our province paid to air in the states was grabbed up by media and has had over a billion hits. That's incredible given it is only in English.

I wonder if any Democrats are going to ask for copies of it to use when campaigning.

It's the new DIY NHS, @NigelJ. ;) I suppose at least they haven't asked you to extract your own blood and bring it along in a tupperware container.

We've bought a haemaglobin test kit as nowhere seems to be able to test you unless you are in hosptal. Even our GP doesn't have one (and ambulances don't have them either). We had to import some capilliary tubes from the Netherlands to collect the blood. So we are now DIY blood testers.

What they need is a mickey analyser as they are taking that regularly.

This does all seem bizarre. I go to the GP every other year for an MOT - blood pressure, listen to heart and lungs, prescribe a blood test for sugar/cholesterol/whatever levels. Take prescription to the nurses who groan when they see me coming as my veins hide but it all gets done with no fuss and results sent me and the GP via email and the joined up medical system.

One of my friends just lost his mother. She had been in a home about a year with parkinsonism but he'd looked after her for a couple of years previous to that. The death wasn't expected, so came as a bit of a shock and he's, obviously, very down at the moment. I've popped in a few times to make sure he's ok but this is where my moan comes from.
He lost his father when he was young and the only family he has is his aunt. I asked if she had been to see him to make sure he was ok and he said he had received an email from her saying how sorry she was. Now that might seem perfectly nice, perhaps a phone call would have been better, but she lives about 40 yards away on the same road. We joked that if she wanted to make sure he was eating properly, she'd email him a recipe.

Some families just aren't close @Thevictorian. Perhaps they didn't see much of each other before she became ill. Perhaps also she's not very sensitive or empathetic and thinks that an adult male should be OK.

                    Still seems sad tho.

My wife went for her annual health check yesterday. As ever her blood pressure reading at the surgery was high, as it always is. We normally do a set of readings for a week before she goes but forgot this time.
The nurse spoke to a doctor (they can evidently actually get to see a doctor) who said they would get the pharmacist to call 'at some time today' when my wife's appointment was at 9.10am. Pharmacist did eventually call and asked what her BP had been at home in the previous week. Communication would be great thing wouldn't it! Then asked my wife to sit for a few minutes and then take 2 readings. Readings were considerably lower, but still higher than normal home readings, which is not a surprise given the hassle my wife had been going through. Rather than ask for readings to be taken over a few days, new blood pressure pills have been prescribed. In all the years I've been having annual checks they have always requested home readings before changing prescription. Presumably they don't bother any more.

Back in the summer I was told to go to the local pharmacy and they fitted me up with one of those 24hr blood pressure monitors, a bit of a pain but it did the job.
I think it was during the hottest week during the summer.

Have been with Plusnet for eons and before that I was with Madasafish, which amalgamated with them. I've always been happy with the service, customer support, price, etc. However ... they are dropping landlines and shuffling any customers who still want one over to EE. OK, I can live without one. But yesterday I had notice that in less than 30 days they are stopping my email and shuffling me off to a company called Freeby, who will provide it free for a while and then start charging me. :th scifD36: Apparently I should have been given 60 days notice and a reminder at 30 days of this move, but was not. Again, I can manage without it ... but I'm beginning to wonder whether nearly £30 a month is not a bit steep for my slimmed-down service of unfull fibre BB.

There seems to be some dodgy dealing happening with the phone companies.

I just wonder if lots of people are dumping land lines and the mobile side of things is looking to cash in big time.

My mobile bill is going up apparently quite a bit.
As usual no one will clamp down on them.

My mobile is only £10 per month. It's good value for money. I can see why people get rid of landlines because of the cost.
