What really got my goat was when they started upping the cost during the course of your fixed term contract by inflation + whatever they felt like. Surely "fixed" means length and price I argued ... to absolutely no avail. So everything favoured the provider and the customer had nothing to gain by fixing. Plus the get-out-early charges really ramped up too.

We received less than one weeks notice of the phone being moved to digital. We don't use it much but that really isn't the point. To avoid having to move the phone to plug directly into the router I did take advantage of a free adaptor which plugs into any socket and the phone is plugged into that.

Be interesting to know how much extra it's costing them when they put our bills up by inflation plus whatever they want

Be more interesting to see their profit statements so the level of customer fleecing can be calculated.

EG - Tesco UK expect profits this year of £3 billion. With food inflation running at 38% over the last 5 years and their profit margins increasing by 72% they are clearly passing on more than costs to their customers.

Sainsbury's are down a bit but still close to £3b.

Thames Water generated £2b of income which yielded £1b profit margin yet they raise prices and seem unable to invest in decent sewage systems.

          Something not right somewhere.

Were you offered an option to end your existing contract without charge @ViewAhead? You've probably already looked for alternatives on comparison sites - Money Saving Expert often offers good deals with incentives like cashback.

It came up as I was renewing, @Plantminded, so, fair enough, I had warning, but the whole concept of "you're locked in on length, but we are not on price" annoys me. Not fixing length is an uneconomical option for the customer as the prices are sky high.

Plusnet have also brought in a £50 charge if you don't return their router when you leave them, which seems quite steep.

Still, Plusnet always does well in "best broadband provider" surveys, so I guess these practices are industry-wide now.

Mine is £10, with O2, but I think its going up soon, I did get a notification but to be honest I didn't take much notice, I need to look into it because it doesn't seem that long ago it went up from £8.

Try GiffGaff, @pete. Excellent provider. I think they do a £6 a month package - all texts and calls included and 1GB of data. I use their PAYG on my dumb phone.

Tell them its outside on the doorstep whenever they want to come round and pick it up, its probably only worth about 2 quid to them at the most.
I've still got a cable TV box in the loft because I told them they needed to come and get it whenever they want to.
Nobody turned up and that was 10yrs ago.

The hospital have said they will keep an eye on me regarding a certain health problem.
Some time ago they informed me my appointment, which only involves a phone call, would be 15th september, but they cancelled it and moved it to 17th November, today they moved it to 30th March 2026, its a good job its not something that is really bothering me at the moment, they cant even fit in a phone call to see if the problem is deteriorating.

Mines GiffGaff, which uses O2. I have no contract, just a monthly plan and you choose from a list. I get 15Gb for £10, which is ample. That's on my smart phone.

On my 2G Nokia I just put some credit on and use it up as proper old fashioned PAYG. You have to make one call or text every 6 months. That's GiffGaff too.

I was with virgin, but they moved me onto O2, since then there has been 2 price rises.

I was with Virgin, but they dumped PAYG lines ... and snaffled my £20 credit! :th scifD36: I didn't know it was happening till I went to make my 6-monthly call and found the line was dead.
