Clearly, @pete, Andrew was hoping that after the payout Virginia Guiffre would "shut up and disappear", but honestly, why should she? Why should she not try to bring the other sleazebags to book for what they did to her, and to the other underage girls treated the same way? It seems that the girls Maxwell recruited for Epstein were all "damaged" and therefore, in their eyes, fair game - runaways, with chaotic home lives, already sexually and/or physically abused... surely nobody should be treated that way. Ok,@Tidemark, there's quite a range of "normal", but nobody should have to accept that it includes abuse.

Sounds like what we used to describe as "nappy" when I was young and horsey. A "nappy" horse is reluctant to go too far from home and will go slower and slower until it just stops; nothing can persuade it to go on, but when you turn it around its ears go forward and it heads off cheerfully. In fact some of them will grab the bit and charge off at a gallop ...

When OH and I rode in the 80s, the horses were all itching to go when we set off on a hack, especially Boxing Day and NY when they hadn't been ridden for a couple of days but some soon calmed down until we turned for home and then they suddenly had no brakes.

Yes @Liriodendron and @pete Andrew has been very stupid, exacerbated by entitlement and naivety. He should never have believed it would all go away even if she never mentioned him again. Much too juicy a story for the press and scandalmongers. Nor should he have thought she wouldn't rain down her revelations on others involved in misdeeds.

So 12 million was not enough, Andy could have saved the money, he'd still be where he is now.
I agree others need to be named but has she, or any of the others involved actually done that.
They seem to want Andy to name them, something strange going on here IMO, who is holding Trump or Mandelson to account, they probably know more than they are saying and so do the women involved.

Its a one man witch hunt at the moment.

Guiffre took money at the time, she took millions in a settlement from Epstein, and then she selected Andrew from the list of those she had slept with because he was (a) rich and (b) famous ... and took a load of money from him too.

Now, there comes a point surely where you have to decide what you want. If you want to expose wrongdoing, you reveal all those involved. If you want compensation, you ask for money.

There are East European girls aged 13 (and possibly younger) currently held in this country in squalid housing and forced to have sex with multiple men each night. They did not choose to enter a rich person's home to carry out massages. They are not being paid. They do not attend parties or get given nice clothes and food. They cannot leave. In the unlikely event they escape, should they attempt to extort any money, their life expectancy would be very short indeed. Frankly, there are poor life choices that may lead you to become exploited, which you may regret in later yrs, and then there's being trafficked for sex by criminal gangs with very little hope of life after the abuse.

I'm not saying either situation is acceptable, of course, but if the media spent 1000th of the attention it has given to Guiffre and bringing down Andrew on the children literally being held prisoners for sex, a few of them might be helped to escape their truly degrading existence and return to their families.

Internet and phone finally reconnected after more than five days. We are with Utility warehouse, not by choice but switched when Origin gave up. We were only on Origin because SSE gave up and transferred all its customers to Origin. It’s been hard to keep up!
It appears we have a break in the wire between the house and the road, but luckily there was a parallel wire also in the boxes, so that has been connected up and all is fine for the time being. The faulty wire will be investigated and repaired.
We do need the landline phone as we have a very poor mobile signal inside the house. It is interesting how few providers now offer a landline option, and those that do, only include it as a monthly rolling programme. Maybe that is something to do with the introduction of Digital Voice, but I haven’t manage to get my head round that yet.
My non smart 2G Nokia is with Tesco Mobile, which uses O2, which is the best signal round here. Visitors and workmen on other networks have to go up the garden to use their phones! I’m still on an old Pay as you Go contract, so I just top it up with the occasional tenner which lasts for ages. I’ve got my head in the sand as far as the upcoming closure of 2G is concerned. That will probably mean a new phone, and somehow transferring the numbers in my directory to it. Mind you, there arent that many, so maybe I’ll just start writing them down so I can enter them manually if needed. Enough to give me headache just thinking about it!

Seems to me @ViewAhead that everything in the USA is valued according to how much you can sue for. Andrew is a very soft target compared to faceless billionaires and politicians with greater layers of protection. I have no sympathy for any of them being outed and made to pay both financially and with loss of liberty.

You are right to mention the abuses suffered by women and sometimes boys trafficked across borders to fulfill the depraved beeds of sexual deviants, in the case of under age victims, and men who are so inadequate they can't get sex any other way. It is despicable and deplorable and should be more rigorously investigated and prosecuted as well as condemned by any sane, "normal", human being with an ounce of civil and social responsibility.

Had Andrew 'only' been involved with a girl of 17 he might well not have ended up in the mess he now finds himself. He not only lied about when he broke off contact with a convicted sex offender, which actually seems never to have happened, but wanted to return to the level of involvement with Epstein from before his imprisonment. When that became public there really was no way back. His clear sense of entitlement is breathtaking.

I think they are going after Andy because he has nothing left to lose and the other people, not being mentioned, are just to powerfull and controlling to be made public. It is also people who aren't caught up in it, asking for his testimony.

Apparently she told her ghost writer the names of 28 other influential men that the public would know. Now that might just be fabricated or there could be some very worried people. It is interesting that the dealing she had with trump were apparently quite good and he was said to have been kind and a gentleman.

As for Andrew himself, by all accounts he probably deserves everything he gets, even if he was innocent. I don't think I've ever heard a good word about him from the people who new him. It's a shame he'll be living in the same county as me.

It is not against the law to have social contact with a convicted sex offender. People serve a sentence, get released, and return to family and friends. Some may reject them, some may stand by them.

Charles has contact with some incredibly dubious people. Camilla's nephew runs a business which takes megabucks from various undesirables in return for access to the Royals via weekends at Balmoral, etc. Charles could, arguably should, refuse to wine and dine these money launderers and rogues ... but he doesn't.

What's the betting Andrew's arrangement for living at Sandringham comes to a crashing end the moment William inherits it? ;) If I were Mr M-W, I'd be thinking of a nice bolt hole somewhere far away, preferably which has no extradition treaty with the US. He can't be short of money. His mother had an estimated wealth of £9 billion back before the pandemic. Some of that must have trickled his way, even if Charles got the best bits (crowns and so forth).

Charles does seem to be cleaning the Augean stable when it comes to Andrew so the decks are cleared for William but I do wonder at just how soft he seems to be towards Camilla's dodgy brood and rellies.

Never mind, they'll get cleared too when William takes over.
