Must say we don’t have to book our car in to drop off at the recycling centre here in South Wales thankfully just show some form of i.d my OH is usually the driver .
Not allowed to meet a friend in a cafe without permission from your probation officer? For having tried to draw attention to damage to the planet’s environment? Time to invoke the second verse of the national anthem regarding our laws.. Thy choicest gifts in store On him be pleased to pour, Long may he reign. May he defend our laws, And ever give us cause, To sing with heart and voice, God save the King.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am not a Trump supporter (... though I completely respect the right of any US citizen to vote for him if they so wish. ) However, if he has started the ball rolling in sorting out appalling BBC bias and smug complacency, he has done us licence fee payers a big favour, IMV. Maybe, just maybe, they will stop shoving climate change, extremist trans views, and all their other pet topics down our throats 24/7. It will be interesting to see what happens. Just changing a couple of bigwigs at the top is not enough. It needs a thorough clean-out through the ranks and a dropping of all propaganda agendas.
@ViewAhead I totally agree. Our CBC is the same. It is a cheering squad for Greenpeace trolls and far left wet dreams. Their opinions are presented as news. Nasty.
I do remember Mr. Trump accusing all sorts of people, organisations and countries being responsible for him losing his 2nd term as president but I don't recall any mention of the BBC "editing" one of his speeches at the time. Surely even if he hadn't heard the item himself, one of his aides would have informed him and he would have had every right to make a song and dance about it - especially given our supposed "Special Relationship" with the US. Apart from that, why are we only being informed of this now when the evidence has obviously been in existence since the day it was aired ? Whilst I am certainly not a fan of the man and doubt that this single issue was responsible for his downfall at the time, if some at the BBC thought it was the correct thing to do, how often does it happen and how much is the news they report actually skewed ? No point just replacing the 2 who resigned without going thru the whole organisation with a fine toothcomb at the same time. It is getting to a stage when no news outlet can be relied upon
You are right, @CanadianLori. It deliberately stokes division and sets out to marginalise majority views. No news outlet funded by the public should have any "agenda" at all. It should not be on the side of one group over another. It should not present fringe views as mainstream and should certainly not disparage those who don't agree with the positions it adopts on key issues. My licence is due for renewal at the end of this month. I am disinclined to pay it.
Well I can see for myself that the climate is changing and that this is not necessarily a good thing; I need neither the BBC to tell me it is, or a crazed orange buffoon to tell me it isn't. Maybe where you live @ViewAhead the weather is exactly the same as it as it was when you moved there, but that would be one of the few places where that is the case.
@ViewAhead I've not long paid our licence fee too. I think we had a couple of years off due to age but then that changed. TBH, from a personal point of view, I think the general BBC output on their TV channels has become increasingly poor over the last few years - celebrity this, that and the other, endless repeats, endless sport and not much worth watching all in all. The salaries paid to some presenters are totally ridiculous and there have been a fair few instances of scandalous behaviour by some who have "apologised" and been paid off.The World Service is useful, often has items of interest and I believe is enjoyed by many all over the world. If you are late with paying your licence fee, you will be chased up regardless of your personal circumstances. Be interesting to know how many of us will draw the line at paying for the licence and whether it will have any impact. How far would you go to make your point.
Why do you assume that your views are the views of the majority. They may well be the views of the majority of people you talk to, but as a percentage of the UK population that is probably not very large.
I believe the BBC is harming the climate change discussion by making it policy to introduce it in every story possible (except when reporting on war, strangely) , however ridiculous. If you want people to listen, an obsession with overkill is not the way forward.
Maybe if the BBC do start to tidy themselves up, they could do something about the wastage of money. Any broadcast item should be costed per minute of actual airtime! Sending a ridiculous number of ‘journalists’ and overpaid presenters to provide content at an eye watering cost should be stopped immediately! No presenter should be paid more than the Prime Minister., for heavens sake! In my opinion, no tv personality/ presenter/ interviewer should be paid more than a nurse! Which occupation do we need more of, and have more respect for? There are people out there who would love to work in broadcasting, and would do it for a pittance. Then the BBC could spend more on making some decent programmes like they used to. I can’t remember the last time we watched anything on the BBC, and although I do look at their news content on line, I do temper it with also reading the Guardian and the Daily Mail, plus CNN! What I want is actually facts and correct information. I’ll form my own opinion, thank you.
The whole trans debate has been a case in point. For yrs, the BBC has pushed a trans extremist view and labelled anyone who so much as questions the mantra as transphobic, hateful, etc, etc. People who stood up against the erasure of the word "woman" were not allowed a voice. Now, I'm pretty sure that the extremism trans view is not a majority view. And it has been the same for yrs on immigration. People who voiced any concern were labelled racist, far right (pejoratively) etc, yet, as we now see, recent polls show a good majority within the country are concerned.
Oh ... and how could I forget Brexit. The majority view was Leave. The BBC view was Remain and it spend yrs allowing carefully selected guests to explain carefully to Leavers why they were clearly wrong, poorly informed, under-educated, etc.
