I'm sure you use street lighting when you drive at night.

Yep pavements are rubbish and contractors dig things up all the time and leave chaos in their wake, but you still have to pay council tax, just think how much less you personally would need to pay if everyone paid their fair share of the burden.;)

I never use street lighting ... but I am happy to contribute so it is there for others. I think dogs should pay some council tax. Round here, there are hundreds, and each and every one produces bags of excrement every day, filling the available bins and costing money to constantly empty these.

Naw! I close my eyes when driving as its more fun. :heehee:

Actually, there is no streety lighting in our village either.

I know. It was almost £4,000 this year. :rolleyespink:

Dogs don't but their owners do, around here it goes in the litter bins, so just an addition filling a bin that needs emptying anyway.

Yes ... but the bins need emptying much more often, and the waste has to be dealt with, and it all costs money. :)

Do people who live in rural places really want street lighting, I'm pretty sure there would be complaints if you lit the villages up like the towns are.

Well perhaps you want a system where you only pay for the bits you use, hardy practical.
And would possibly cost much more to put into practice.

Given the amount I pay in tax, it makes having my bins emptied and street lighting look very, very expensive...

Exactly because less than half the population are paying it.

I think one of the largest chunks is social care coming out of council tax.
That should be government funded IMO.

We don't have street lighting and I don't want any but it makes sense to have it available in the centre of the village and in towns tho our local town and village turn it all off at 10pm. If we report a pot hole to the council it's usually filled within 48 hours and once a year they send round a fancy road repair lorry with the mechanics to recognise and measure a hole or set of cracks, scoop out the surface in a square or rectangular shape and fill it level so no bumps, just new grit to negotiate for a few days.

Everyone should contribute to provision of council services according to their income, not the size of their home. Education, social care, community services such as meetinfg halls etc benefit us all whether directly or indirectly.

No, I'm happy to pay for bits I don't use, but when a new expense gets foisted on the Council eg dealing with the results of the dog ownership explosion, maybe they should be able to charge. A dog licence would work, payments going to the local authority.

If it is going to be calculated by income, @Obelix-Vendée, they might as well just increase income tax to cover it.

There is more dogs here than humans and we don't have doo poo bins, where ever the dog poo's that is where it's left, you may get the odd person that will kick it to the side of the road, we also get human's peeing & pooing outside of our house only because it's the only place they can pull up

I wouldn't want street lights, but if you pay the same as the people in towns we get less for our money but the worse bit is, if you have any proplems with anything it will be the last thing that gets fixed if it gets fix at all because there is no money left to fix it or it's because it's less populated so not many people shouting to get it fixed

                        Its not new.
People have had dogs for years, I even remember the licence, but as with all things only responsible people end up paying it, similar to the TV licence.

Dog waste goes in the litter bins, as I say, and ends up in the local incinerator.
Now getting people to put litter in litter bins might be a good idea.;)
