I use 100% cocoa powder in cakes and desserts as needed but have never seen 100% chocolate bars. I don't like very dark chocolate but do enjoy good quality milk choc so the only way to resist it is not to buy any. Crisps are easy - I never buy them but, if offered, I do like the organic root veg mixes with beetrrot and parsnips in there.

@Thevictorian i'm already upset about what Saudi means for all the slave labour they use in the Arab states and Saudi will be no better. The people in charge of FIFA need a reality check and their bank accounts investigating.

 

Lindt make 100% cocoa chocolate and also several less well known manufacturers. I think it is sold mainly for cooking.

Why do they persist in using the term Eurovision for the song competition ? Many entrants come from outside Europe now so why not change the name to WorldSongs and have done ? No doubt there will still be the political back biting but that is a given these days. No different to the world of football when they involve politics in what is, after all, a bunch of people kicking a ball about, bowing to their fans and hugging their team mates every 5 minutes.

Apparently the participants can be any country in the EBA - European Broadcasting Area - which is why Israel gets in and Lebanon, Syria, and any state on the north African Med coast could apply as long as they are members of the European Broadcasting Union.

Not sure how Australia got in there.

I tried a bar of that 70% stuff a few years ago and ended up throwing it away.

I've never understood this crazy idea that you can get hooked on chocolate, it does nothing for me, and all this rubbish about it affecting you and making you feel good, bunkum IMO.

I prefer a nice drop of whisky.

 

I think it's the sugar that most people get hooked on.

 

I don't buy chocolate other than the 70% cocoa bar. I've never tried eating it "raw" as such as I only use it for making my own chocs.

 

I do that for Xmas truffles @Philippa and for chocolate cakes and tarts tho for cakes with cocoa powder in too, 55% is good.

@pete the active ingredient that makes chocaholics is theobromine. Not everyone is receptive. There are also flavonols which are antioxidants so it's a fairly healthy "addiction" if you eat good quality chocolate that isn't full of sugar and other nasties. Whisky also has some health benefits if taken in moderation but I can't stand the smell or the taste so I'm sticking with chocolate and wine.

 

I can remember drinking cocoa when I was a kid, it was the bedtime drink.
Maybe that's why I'm not impressed by chocolate as such.

We had it made with water and a small amount of milk, very powdery taste.

 

I freeze over-ripe bananas, then blend them with cocoa powder. Makes a good substitute for chocolate ice cream.

 

I have just seen an advert for Royal Mail, where a couple received a Christmas card. This promptly encouraged them to start decorating the tree and generally getting in the Christmas spirit.

Just as well that I'm not relying on them to put me into the mood. We've had no post for a fortnight, and this situation has been going on for some time. Apparently due to a shortage of staff, but it seems to be affecting a certain area only. Parcels are fine, but "ordinary" post has taken a back seat.

Not sure about the taste, but they are smaller.
