I think it's quite a generational thing because my mum still sends Christmas cards but I never have and nor do any of my friends. We used to keep the odd card in our bag incase we got given one by surprise but it's not something we would normally do. My mum on the other hand loves them. The number she sends is reducing yearly but only because many of the recipient's are no longer here, oftenter the only way she knows they are dead is if she doesnt recieve a card for two years running. I find it funny that she is still in contact with someone that she went on holiday with, not a friend but I think they were on the same coach, in 1978 and never seen each other since. With the cost in stamps and cards it's a small fortune which would be better given to charity.

I don't know, @Thevictorian. I don't think you can put a price on the connection with your past self and as you get older, what has already happened features more in your thinking than what is yet to happen. I exchange cards with a few people I haven't seen in 45 yrs. I also exchange some with people I have never met at all in the real world ... and realistically never will. :)

And people can still be friends even when they don’t see other. It’s just nice to keep in touch and think of others even if it is at certain times in the year.

It might sound strange but I have trouble writing these days anyway.
I lurch from what I call schoolboy joined up writing to printed capitals in mid sentence.

I just don't really write anymore and really admire some of that fancy flowing writing lots of people did years ago.

I was always told mine looked like a spider had crawled out of an inkwell at the best of times.

It’s not surprising @pete, given how much of what we do these days is typing on keyboards. As a mature student in my 50s, I suddenly had to start writing exam answers by hand. After the first day of exams, I thought I’d have to give up, I could hardly hold the pen, and what I was writing was getting less and less legible.
I seem to remember seeing something recently about the rules for GCSEs being changed, to allow students to use computers or tablets. There would have to be a load of safeguards to ensure that no one could just download prepared (or pre-purchased) answers!

Doesn’t sound strange at all @pete as I have the same affliction. My writing is terrible now, think I’d qualify as a Doctor on that score. But all during my working life I spent on keyboards with very little proper writing in between. My OH has beautiful writing so anything that needs writing up, he gets the job! Just today I had a form to complete to claim a refund from the Royal Mail and asked him to fill it in for me as my writing would have been illegible. Similar to @Ergates my hand seizes up after so long so OH gets the Xmas card writing job too.

After todays announcement of ticket pricing for the world cup final next year, then all nations should be boycotting this tournament, if not, the fans should be.

In the 2022 world cup final in Qatar, the cheapest ticket for the final which is set by FIFA was £450. For the 2026 final, the cheapest ticket announced by FIFA today and set by them will be £3,119 and there is no concessions for children or any other groups.

Attendances are likely to fall through the floor but 'The Orange One' will still claim at the end that it was the Greatest World Cup ever, with the greatest numbers attending.

Do you really need a boycott at those prices.:roflol:
I assume most fans wont be able to afford it, but then football is all about money these days anyway, stupid amounts they pay players.

£3,119 ... before the touts add their cut presumably. Mind, they might get their fingers burnt if they can't offload their "stock" onto desperate punters.

There's no point to the World Cup, Eurovision, or any other mass entertainment unless it is about the fans. If you effectively exclude them through pricing or location issues, you might as well just not bother going ahead with the event.

They'll pay for the match tickets, flights, accommodation, visa fees in advance and then when US immigration refuses the visa or just won't let you in; I bet you they won't get a penny back from anywhere.
