I don't think he'd have been arrested if his brother wasn't king now. If the queen was still alive I don't think he'd be facing and investigation at all, i believe she gave him the job in the first place, decorated him with medals and titles and tried to protect him from other allegations. They could have looked into him for other things many years ago, when she was still monarch, they undoubtedly had details of his private movements from his security. If they can make this allegation stick then it will make some think they have a small sense of justice but it's more an embarrassment for him than facing justice for what he has probably done.
He always was an embarrassment to the royal family even back in the 80s there was rumours about him. People I know who spent time on the rebuild of Windsor in the 90s said he was a waste of space.
I don't think His young sex partners had much say in the matter, whether of legal age in the UK or not and that's the problem - sex as a right, sex involving girls or boys, women or men who have no choice and fall prey to powerful men whoever and wherever they are. Epstein was running his honey traps like an industry and trading people as commodities. That is wrong at any level of morality.
The point is he was arrested for passing information onto Epstein, I dont think his other activities come into it.
Listening to the World Service last night, it seems there is yet another "influencer" at large on the web. A young man who encourages boys/men into believing that male beauty is everything. He recommends taking a hammer to the face in order to gain a "chiselled" look, using testosterone on a regular basis and one or 2 other rather odd ideas. Apparently he also believes that the culture of feminism and womens rights has impacted male lives in a serious way and that "modern man" should no longer take these into consideration in the way they behave throughot their lives. One of his heroes is Andrew Tate who was, I believe, convicted of trafficking and grooming women. Hardly surprising that so many young people end up with a twisted and fanatical mindset. As for the age of consent re sexual relations, whilst it is 16 in the UK ( and has been for years ), I presume it varies within the US and other countries. However, that is "consensual" sex and doesn't apply if coercion, drugs or physical abuse is involved.
Of course @pete. Think about it. He can be questioned and charged in the UK for crimes against the UK interest. It'll be easier for them to gain the evidence they need without accessing the Epstein files as it involves British delegations, civil servants and security staff who can bear witness. As for men who fear women and think they are inferior - in the so called advanced countries it has taken decades of action to get the vote, to be allowed to own property, manage their own money, go to university and get a degree. Despite equal opportunities legislation women are still paid less than men for the same work and are still dicriminated against for promotion, especially if of child-bearing age. In the US, they only got the right to have their own bank account in the 1970s and right now there is legislation SAVE - going thru to deny people their right to vote unless they can prove they are the same person as the person named on their birth certicificate. In other words, women who marry and adopt their husband's name have to go throught legal hoops and expense to be eligible to vote. The legislation is, supposedly, intended to prevent illegal immigrants from voting but the way it's worded will affect native Americans, married women and anyone of the 146 million voters who don't have a passport.
And meanwhile the Taliban has announced that domestic violence against women is fine, provided no serious injuries are caused, putting wives and daughters on the same footing as slaves within the home. To discuss this new law is a punishable offence.
Re Andrew, why was he arrested in such a dramatic fashion (dawn raid, birthday), rather than being asked to attend an interview under caution? Why was he held for 11 hrs and no charges brought? My guess is they know they can't make anything stick, but they wanted to generate maximum drama. Having done this, they will probably drag out the investigation for yrs, hiding behind the "all very complicated" banner.
Perhaps he was asked to drop by and have a chat with a friendly tape recorder and bring your solicitor for company Sir, but he declined as he has "done nothing wrong". Probably took a few hours to roust out his solicitor and get him up to Norfolk. He was released under investigation (used to be called Police Bail) which is fairly normal for complex cases.
He has plenty to answer for @ViewAhead and taking him into custody a) shows they are serious and b) gives them free rein to search for evidence without him obstructing them. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops and how they proceed with Mandelson now on similar charges. It's all very damaging to the UK given they had access to all sorts of info about UK alliances (NATO for one) and shared security info between them. As an aside, it's interesting to see how much more effective Ukraine's campaign against Russia has become since France and Ukraine stopped sharing security info with the USA - successful strikes on convoys, personnel, armament stockades, refineries, ports and other strategic sites.
Well there you go, its not too bad here, is it? I just detect a common theme appearing these days and its mostly all women are perfect and all men are bad, there is good and bad on both sides IMV but its getting a bit out of hand. They go on about misogynists but there is also a large amount of animosity in the other direction as well, but obviously the way things are these days that's all fine. Similar to how "positive" discrimination is openly applied.
Maybe. (They transported him to Surrey for the interview, which again seems overly dramatic, but there we are.) I wonder if he said "no comment" throughout.
I agree, but violence is predominantly (though not exclusively) one-way because of the disparity of strength between the sexes. To counter this, laws need to factor in that reality. In the age of some frankly barking social media influencers, the position for women is sliding backwards.
I agree, or you have a law in place where there is an age restriction. The UK age of consent is 16 and unless the other person over 18 is not in a position of trust, then that is legal. So they either raise the age to 18 for consent or a minor (16 years) can only consent to someone else who is a minor 16 to 17. David Cameroon rejected calls to lower the age without allowing a public debate, which I agreed with. In the US the age is between 16 and 18, so if your in a state where the age of consent is 18, then there is no age restrictions for the older person. But I am sure there are states where an 18+ plus year old can not engage with someone who is 16 as it is deemed as having sex with a minor. To think it was only 2008 when the age of consent in Spain was 13 then became 16 by law in 2009, I doubt that meant a 13 year old could consent to anyone 18 or over though.
So horrid. History in general has always showed women considered the second class person but this culture takes it to the extreme. We women are the ones with the most rare commodity and men have the least commodity. Males do these things because they "fear" women in general. We have lost so much because they did not let women thrive.
