Whaaattt?

Why is it Meta's fault that they have mentally damaged children, why are not all children mentally damaged.
And why didn't the parents notice.
Are the parents totally not at fault, or must some blame lie with them,at least.

Just asking?

 

The claim is that META/YouTube/Instagram etc have deliberately created their platforms to be addictive and deliberately targetted young children and teens @pete

It takes a certain degree of IT awareness and general scepticism for a parent to believe that when they first let their kids have a mobile phone or PC so all too often they find out too late but it is behind the moves by certain countries to limit social media access to youngsters out of concern for the growing number of suicides and other mental damage being recorded as a result of bullying, hazing and worse on some platforms.

Just for info, Mark Zuckerberg doesn't let his own children on those platforms.

 

It's META's fault because they deliberately set out to do harm because it was profitable. They have known for yrs that their algorithms created addiction and pushed harmful content at young people in no position to cope with it. They have continually refused to tell bereaved parents what their child saw.

 

Well there you go.
Maybe those parent should follow Zuckerberg's example.

I just find it slightly annoying that the parents seem to not take any responsibility, in fact mostly no responsibility.

Its similar to feeding your kid on burgers all the time and then blaming the burger company for them getting fat.

Half of these parents wont let their kids out all day doing other things because its dangerous out there, so why do they let them spend all evening after school online, even 6 yr olds are doing it.

 

When parents send their 5 year old to school still wearing nappies, why would we think they are going to take any responsibility for anything else their kids do?

 

I would hate to be a teather as they have to go and change them, i hope the school and tax payer is NOT paying for the next nappie and the parents surpply them!!!

 

I did read on the internet news that mark zuckerberg was making a AI ceo for his meta company, that may be fun, so not sure if it's true

I wonder what would happen if the AI CEO sacks zuckerberg

 

He was beaten to it by Elon Musk, who has been replaced by his AI (lust look at the eyes).

 

Or those that buy a house next to an Airport and complain about those nasty planes all the time.

Just been watching footage of a US committee interviewing candidates who have applied to be federal judges,obviously all Trump recommendations. The interviewer kept asking them what would appear to be a simple question - who won the 2020 election? They squirmed and quoted constitutional legalities, but couldn’t bring themselves to just come out and admit that Biden had won it. Given their general incoherence, I’d struggle to appoint them to flip burgers in McDs. No wonder the USA is in such a mess

 

It does seem to be a strange question though to be asking when interviewing for judges.

I'd have thought more to do with the law would be appropriate, but I do see your point.

The various Social Media platforms do have questions to answer without doubt. However, the $6 million compensation paid to the 20 year old woman who claims they caused an addiction does seem a bit odd.
She was apparently using the inet ( You Tube by all accounts ) from the age of 6 and then progressed to Meta at the age of 9. Presumably she wasn't wealthy enough to buy her own inet access so either used one available in her home or her parents purposely supplied her with the means to access it. From then onwards, her parents must accept at least partial responsibility for what she was able to access and have taken steps to curtail her usage.
If these platforms are proven to be addictive ( intentionally or otherwise ) and are readily and legally available, their usage should be taxed in the same way as Alcohol or Tobacco products.
