I once listened a recording of a customer service call (yes, one of those "your call may be recorded for training purposes" things) where the customer was quite rude and the agent very polite.

The agent apologised for everything the customer had suffered and finally the customer shouted "and will you just stop that annoying apologising for a moment". You might guess what the agent said next.

 

Go on Go on.

 

I'm happy for language to evolve. I just think AI parroting Americanisms as though these are immutable laws is annoying.

 

You'll have to get your own AI and educate it on English literature and language.

 

As long as the listener understands the speaker, it’s fine. But when language evolves at such a speed that people can’t keep up, there’s a problem. Here is a taste of modern English as spoken by a young person. Not for me, thank you.

 

@Tidemark How do you pronounce IYKYK or is it an unpronounceable abbreviation?
I wouldn't have associated Ohio with a "cursed version of reality" Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas yes, but not Ohio.

 

Yes, I was wondering what Ohio had done to deserve that!

 

The lauguage has always been hard for me to understand and with the change's it's now even harder, i've even given up things because some words i don't even under stand, even on this thread with some of these big words i start to think " what the hell does that mean" i like basic simple words

 

Unterchangeable? I think I'll go for plain terchangeable for things that can't be swapped around.

 

Exterchangeable they could be swapped around, but now due to age/wear they can't be swapped around.

 

Try pronouncing IYKYK. It sounds like something rude a dolphin might say. Or it does to my warped imagination.

 

I was in a meeting and somebody said to my boss "Can I do xyz" He replied "I don't know whether or not you are capable of doing xyz, but you may not do it". Blank looks from most of the people in the meeting.

 

It's pronounced "If you know, you know" and written iykyk

 

I know xyz being used as a warning about a garment malfunction - examine your zip . I don't think that was meant in your meeting though, I hope not anyway .
