my roses are limp and have tiny white stuff a;; over them

hi rose lovers !

potted a rose bush months ago . and its grown beautifully ! but over the past week i have noticed that its weak and has lots of white fly or grain type things on it ,its my firt ever rose plant and i want to buy more , any advice on what to buy to help this one thanks Melannie xx

 

anyone know or would i need to show A photo ?

 

Think it might need an insectacide or something, but I dont know, its first time i have seen it on my rose bushes ?

 

Rose Clear Ultra Gun Contact and Systemic Insecticide and Fungicide
This will work or something similar. You can get it at B&Q or Homebase etc.

 

Make sure you are giving your rose enough water, Melannie. You'd be surprised how quickly pots dry out, even in dull or damp weather.

Is it possable that your rose is pot bound [not enough room for the roots to spread] that would cause it to go weak, and it may be under attack from Thrips. But i could be wrong.

I think I might try the insecticides previously mentioned first, and then have a look at the size of the pot, I personnally think the pot is big enough and I live in scotland, so its getting plenty rain, lol, and if no rain all my plants get watered anyway every night, but how would one make sure the pot is big enough going by the size of the bush, how would you be able to tell what size a pot you need ?

With not knowing what type of rose you are growing in the pot, Hybrid T, Floribunda or Patio and the size of the pot, I'm stabbing in the dark a little bit.
Living in Scotland, i know water is not the problem :D.
The easiest way to tell if your rose is pot bound is check the drainage holes at the bottom, if roots coming though then it could be pot bound or if you have put drainage at the bottom of the pot you may have to lift the whole thing out, and check the root ball and see if its wrapping around itself.

bought the spray, any tips or hints on using this stuff or is just a case of using the instructions ?

My rose bush is now totally infested, and I think its moved onto my lillys too :(

 

Just follow the instructions. Make sure you do the undersides of the leaves. That's where the boogers like to hide out. I also spray the top of the soil in the container in case some have dropped off.

 

My roses get this sometimes and i use the insecticide called Provado, it's expensive but good and you'll only need the one application monthly.

As ClaraLou said, water this potted plant copiously, don't just use a wateringcanful - use 2 or 3, and make sure the pot's sited in an area where the the air can circulate freely because these plants won't thrive in a plant-crowded area.

 

its in a spray bottle though already pre mixed ?

 

One question about them being droopy. Is it the whole plant or just the flower heads? Some roses have weak necks and this makes the blooms droop over a bit when they are fully open. I have one that does that. If that's the case there is nothing wrong there.

 

thanks for your responce catztail, i am going to post a photo up , my plant is infested with catapillas adn all sort of migie type things . ive bought a bug spray but the weather is monsoon where i live right now so i am unable to spray! such a shame because its a beautiful rose bush - its infested with tiny black mighy type thing too ! and these tiny things are flyling all over the air plus ive n.ticed them on my front door which isnt to far from the rose pot. hope you can see the photo ok thanks Annie xx

 

Spraying will help just do it when the weather decides to cooperate. In the mean time if you aren't squeamish you can squash the gits with your fingers. It can be most satisfying when you're annoyed!
