Most of the pics Joolz are black and white which enhance the blackness.
I don't think there is any genuine black flowered plant in existence. Usually a deep purple or similar.

Think this one may be a job for the Trades Descriptions Department! :)

I'm nearly certain the whole advert is a con. Here's why:

      1. There are no genuinely black plants. There are plants that are close to black, and may appear black in a certain light, but no genuine black plants.

      2. The write-up suggests black roses have been around for centuries. I seem to remember from my school days that black roses were (then) exclusively the stuff of obscure legend, and it is only in recent years (I believe) that roses have been successfully bred to be anywhere near black in appearance.

If you want a black rose, I think you might have to paint a purple one:)

Because for reasons beyond my understanding, plants just aren't interested in green light. That means they will always, to some extent, reflect a bit of green (among other colours, depending on the pigments in the various parts of the plant).

Black is the absence of any light, so to be truly black, the plant would have to absorb all of the visible light spectrum.

I don't know about black roses, but as far as dark blue roses are concerned, it is genetically impossible to achieve one because Roses are missing the gene producing the pigments responsible for blue and pure blues (such as those of the Delphinium, for example).

I'm surprised e-bay allowed this ad to go ahead, there's a chance it may cause them problems aswell.

I don't think its possible to cultivate a true black rose. Then again the Ebay sale is not exactly the "sting" of the 21st century at £1.99 with free postage :D I think it may be worth a punt on this one Joolz :dbgrtmb:
Reminds me of a book I read when I had hair and a waist called "The Black Tulip" , I have seen some very deep purply blue tulips is a close black possible these days ?

Joolz, the only way you're going to get those colours, is to buy some spray on die, just like some garden centres do to heathers now, or should I say Erica's. :heehee:
