It's too clever for me. The wife and I gave up on the sums and just chose some random numbers for our final result. The spooky thing still guess most of them.

        Explanation

This may require just a little bit of simple adding and subtracting :)

Each group of 10 numbers will always give exactly the same answer.
e.g. if you pick number 11 then it is 11 - 2 (the total of the two numbers) = 9

        17 - 8 = 9

All numbers from 10 to 19 will give the same answer

Similarly all numbers from 20 to 29 will give you the answer of 18

For whichever group of ten numbers you pick you will get an answer that is a multiple of 9 (Magic :heehee:)

Therefore there are only 10 possible answers (0, 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81 - all multiples of 9) for any two digit numbers (which is what you were asked to pick.)

When the gopher brings up the big chart with the emblems on it you will notice that all the emblems for the above numbers are the same. so whatever two digit number you originally picked you will always get the same emblem. That is the one that the gopher 'reads' in yuor mind.

The clever bit is that you will always try it again and he will change the emblem - but that doesn't matter because he will always show you the emblem alongside the numbers that are a multiple of 9.

        Abracadabra :yahoo:

Very clever, so the only time it would be wrong is if you chose the same numbers again, which isn't likely.

          Val, it's never wrong.

If you pick the same number again them all that will happen is that you will see a different emblem against but gopher will show you that emblem. Magic.
