I've been trying for weeks to sack the bank I've used for over 20 years, who recently have let me down a lot so I switched to a better one.

I've phoned them, wrote to them, and phoned them again and again. Its like beating my head off a brick wall. Then I noticed that I can send them messages via my online banking, so I sent the following. Do you think they might get the messages:

Despite actually managing (supposedly) to close an account many, many years ago, I keep getting sent statements showing I've still got about 13 pence in it - they started with about 10p, apparently due to outstanding interest being added since it was 'closed'.

It's so infuriating isn't it Clueless! Many years ago I subscribed to a very well known magazine. I tried every which way to cancel it and I'd stopped the payments, but it still kept arriving free of charge. This went on for months. Then I tried one thing which I didn't think would work. I wrote moved away on the packaging and shoved it in the post box. No more arrived after that.

It's a shame you can't do that with the bank. :)

you are just a number in the banking system .... and as long as you owe them money, or they owe you money, your account will always remain open, there is no way the computers will 'write off' the balance if it is not zero)

only way you can close the account is withdraw the balance or pay the overdraft, even if it is 1p... then ask for it to be closed, and it will be closed ....

they don't really care about you (unless you are a zillionaire)

But that's exactly what I did - then they added that 10p flippin pence interest and kept it open, but that was in the good old days of savings accounts when I was getting twice that in interest every minute.
